@naimeiy@marcportermagee Would love to get more info on this, where can I find him saying this? (Trying to get my own kid to put more effort into schoolwork!)
Reading specialists: A lot of you are working with some kids who have undiagnosed vision skills deficits. Some of you know this, but many of you might not. Schools tend to overlook this, as do parents, so your students continue to struggle with reading. More instruction can still help, but they usually learn much more readily once a vision issue is addressed.
Unfortunately, that often requires vision therapy which is expensive and is usually not covered by insurance. Still, it's useful to know if a vision problem exists, so I always suggest that a child should at least be tested. Again, that's the parent's responsibility, and it might never get done. Plus, it might be difficult for you to bring it up with a parent.
I would like to post a series of articles on vision issues if there are reading specialists interested in learning more about them, including things you can look for that suggest a problem with vision skills.
A search for "vision therapy" in here indicates that most optometrists who deal with vision therapy are now inactive on X. That's unfortunate because they're the experts, but I do have a reasonable amount of experience working with kids both before and after vision therapy and I think I have something to offer if you're interested.
Please repost this so other reading specialists see it, and indicate your own interest with either a comment or a follow. If even a few are interested, I'll begin to share what I've learned. Of your struggling readers, fully half of them might have treatable vision skill deficits, and almost certainly a few do.
Hey, @etihad - Your cabin manager on EY16 put a passenger’s life at risk today. There as a medical emergency near my seat. I, a quadruple board certified physician (who happens to be a female), saw the commotion and immediately responded. 1/
A 5-year-old Texan just spent the first day of school in an ICE detention center.
ICE kidnapped Liam Tadeo on his way to a soccer game with his dad.
Liam should be in kindergarten. Instead, our government has thrown him in a prison camp hundreds of miles from home.
This morning in Danbury, ICE was arresting parents at school bus stops.
But it’s more sinister. ICE waited until the kids were on the bus so when they are dropped off at the end of the day, they are alone, scared to death they can’t find their parents.
I’m heading to Danbury.
Unintentional child drowning deaths in the U.S. fell to below 1,000 a year by the early 2000s, thanks to public awareness campaigns, expanded access to swimming lessons, and pool fencing laws. But then the trend reversed in 2024 because the pandemic interrupted swimming lessons and lifeguard training programs.
This man stood up for another in distress. We need more like him in the world as he said he will continue to stand up to injustice https://t.co/09e1ipAlTk
The new EO on vaccines will make life harder & more expensive for parents who want to vaccinate their kids.
What used to be one office visit + one low-cost combo MMR shot (~$10–$75 range… or free under VFC) will now be THREE separate shots at three separate visits.
MORE trips, MORE time off work, MORE admin fees, MORE hassle, MORE pain for America’s children - and higher odds kids miss doses.
“Big Pharma” & healthcare providers? They could actually sell/administer THREE TIMES the product and bills for three visits under this EO! 🤯🤔
Cell phones don’t belong in the classroom. My plan to ban cell phones in K-12 classrooms and limit screen time keeps kids focused on what matters: learning. Let’s get it done.
@ParthaSundaram@40yardhammer@_MathAcademy_@justinskycak This is my concern with my 9 yr old. We haven’t started MA with my son yet, partly because I’m thinking he won’t be motivated to put in the energy required to focus. I’m willing to sit with and walk him through it, but will that be enough?
We have a responsibility to give our kids the skills they need to succeed — inside and outside the classroom.
That’s why I signed a bipartisan bill into law requiring cursive handwriting to be taught in every PA public school. It’s why I’ve called on the legislature to pass a bill requiring schools to implement a bell-to-bell cell phone ban and also directed the State Board of Education to develop recommendations for schools to guarantee recess for their students.
And it’s why we’re taking action right now to help our kids navigate AI and use it safely.
Look, I know that technology is becoming more ingrained into our everyday lives — but as adults, we’re not powerless here. Let’s continue this work to create a better future for our next generation.
No President in control of his senses would publicly promise to eradicate an entire civilization.
That's why I agree with Republicans who have put the 25th Amendment on the table. Trump seems to be taking us on a path to mass war crimes. That's a path we cannot accept.
It's the Easter holidays (2026), and I have two copies of Primary Reading Simplified to give away!
