First major non tropical severe weather outbreak in over a month targets the Plains today. Strong tornadoes possible in eastern Kansas & Oklahoma near sunset. Biggest risk window: 6-9pm CT.

The #severe #wx risk has increased for today with a level 3/5 risk introduced from east TX to central LA & MS. A few #tornadoes, some of which could be strong, very large #hail to the size of baseballs, and isolated wind damage are all expected through tonight.

Updates were made to the outlook for Jan 11-12. Severe weather is still expected from ArkLaTex into the Southeast.

Primary threats: a strong tornado or two, damaging wind, and large hail.

Tornadoes are especially dangerous at night. Have a multiple ways to receive warnings.

Remember, the nationwide emergency alert test is today at 1:20p CT. A few notes…

*If you have a hidden phone due to a domestic violence/abuse situation, be sure and power the phone down completely. And, be aware the tone could sound when you turn the phone back on.

*The tone you will hear is the same one used for tornado warnings, high impact flash flood warnings, and amber alerts. It is nothing new.

*You will NOT hear the loud tone for 30 minutes. It will be the same short burst you receive for tornado/flash flood warnings.

*Please don’t turn off emergency alerts on your phone. If you do that, you will miss tornado warnings. And, miss the chance to help someone with a child that has been kidnapped when an amber alert is issued. WEA alerts always need to be ON.

*There is also an EAS (Emergency Alert System) portion of the test that local radio/TV stations will air.

*You won’t turn into a zombie, and today doesn’t mark the beginning of World War 3. Please don’t listen to the imbeciles on TikTok.
