Kids playing baseball, do exactly that, play the game! Hitters-find the barrel, Pitchers- hit the glove. Be a student of the game and compete. Your EV's/Arm strength will come naturally as you get older. Don't let the cage, portable mound or computer screen consume you.

When working on receiving there is value in having the next catcher up serve as the umpire. He can give valuable feedback from the umpire’s perspective but he can also get 1st hand experience seeing what the umpire sees when technique is both good & bad.

In response to questions about glove loading pre-pitch, here are ten catchers from the top 15 in framing runs according to baseball prospectus. Used baseball savant to get only out of zone pitches.
All catchers are using some sort of timing mechanism to work down to up.
