Per the updated AR 601-210 (reported by Stars and Stripes):

* Maximum enlistment age is now 42 — with or without prior service
* A single marijuana or paraphernalia conviction no longer needs a waiver

Effective date: April 20 (4/20) — which, no, they didn’t explain… and yes, people noticed.

Now layer in reality:

* About 77% of Americans aged 17–24 are ineligible to serve
* That leaves roughly 23% who qualify without a waiver

So let’s translate the spin into plain English:

If recruiting were actually “going great,”
you wouldn’t be pushing the age limit into people’s 40s
and relaxing entry standards at the same time.

That’s not a victory lap.
That’s the Army widening the net because the pool is running dry.

You don’t make moves like this in a calm, stable moment.
You make them when the pipeline is thin, the targets aren’t being met, and planners are staring at a much rougher decade than they’re willing to say out loud.
