⭕️ Israel is still blocking prosthetic limbs, oxygen concentrators, laboratory reagents, and other essential medical items under Israel’s “dual use” restrictions, leaving thousands of amputees waiting for surgery or evacuation, Dr. Reinholde Van De Weerdt, WHO Representative for the occupied Palestinian territory said today.

🔹Current estimates put the number of amputees in Gaza at roughly 6,000 people, with children making up about a quarter of the cases. Some 43,000 people have suffered life-sharing injuries.

🔹 Up to 10 children per day were reportedly undergoing one or both leg amputations from October 2023 to October 2025, contributing to Gaza becoming home to the world’s largest cohort of child amputees and among the highest per capita amputation rates globally.

🔹 Dr. Van De Weerdt further described catastrophic conditions inside Gaza, warning that hospitals are barely functioning, critical medicines and laboratory equipment remain blocked at the border, and disease outbreaks risk spreading amid overcrowding, rodent infestations, and collapsing sanitation systems.

🔹She said at least 880 people have been killed and more than 2,600 injured in Gaza since the October 2025 “ceasefire,” while attacks on healthcare continue and no hospital in the Strip remains fully operational.

“Nothing prepares you for Gaza,” she said after returning from the enclave.
