We train doctors in the #biology of health and over the last decade or so we've got better at understanding the key role played by the #socialdeterminants of health. Now we must appreciate that the environmental context has a profound influence. #climatechange

A day in Canberra trying to stop Middle Arm and Beetaloo Basin gas fracking, at the end of which the federal government voted to prevent a senate enquiry into the impacts.
So proud of @DavidPocock and @Mon4Kooyong for their work.
@DocsEnvAus@ap4ca
Today I joined @Mon4Kooyong with 100 doctors from around 🇦🇺 to call on the Govt to withdraw $1.5B funding for the Middle Arm petrochemical hub on Darwin harbour.
Middle Arm will turn Darwin into a cancer alley and unlock the Beetaloo Basin to fracking.
@gemtreee@LiviaHool@FranklinWomen @CSHeartResearch @OzCvA Congratulations @gemtreee So well deserved - and such an inspiration to many aspiring cardiologists, particularly women. Perhaps we could start by aiming for gender parity in our trainees?
The billion tonnes of emissions from NT fracking wont just effect the Northern Territory. I live in regional Victoria and it will make fires, floods and heatwaves worse for me.
So yeh, I feel just fine about about having my say on it. https://t.co/0UVARsRklz
In case you missed it, check out @BessellSharon’s episode on #PolicyForumPod. She looks at how Robodebt became an acceptable policy, why child poverty is allowed, and she gives us hope for the future.

Still in shock but so thrilled to have been awarded an ARC Future Fellowship to research ways to strengthen political representation! Grateful to so many colleagues here and abroad who have supported me along the way. 🙏 Big thanks to @ANUCrawford@ANUasiapacific@arc_gov_au
The devastation in northern hemisphere is a deeply concerning sign of what may be in store for 🇦🇺 in this & future summers.
We need leadership & bold action to protect the people & places we love.
Yet 🇦🇺 govt keep approving new fossil fuel projects 🤯

A career highlight - a mighty little agency doing vital work, deploying Australia's deep expertise in agricultural and environmental science on the biggest challenges of our time. @SenatorWong@afsnsw Best wishes to @WendyUmberger and the great ACIAR team!
@ALeighMP talks trials, randomisation and data - not (just) a health policy approach but important in all policy.
Thanks for a wonderful conversation Andrew
@BessellSharon
On 8 August, 80+ paediatricians, GPs, nurses & other healthcare professionals will come to parliament and call on the govt to withdraw taxpayer subsidies for the Middle Arm gas processing & export hub.
I stand with them - you can join them too.

A timely reminder of how hot it can get in west Sydney & how our urban environment can amplify the heat

But remarkably undeterred, Australia continues approving and subsidising huge new fossil fuel projects like fracking the Beetaloo Basin… aiming for a one in 10-billion-year event perhaps? #auspol https://t.co/67dmueHTkU
#housing is fundamental to health.
This is an inspirational project from an NT community to design and build houses, by community, for community.
