What is wrong w you? @British_Airways threatening customers, lying, hanging up... none of u realize how much lost baggage can spoil a trip. Not to mention a trip thats been planned for 2+ years. Have some decency.
This week in lecture we discussed the difference between advertising and public relations. Which technique do you think is more effective? We went over a couple characteristics of each technique and I am curious to see what people think would be most effective. #UWJ201 #319
@timo15447346 I find ads that are normally relevant to my life or include things that I like seem to catch my eye the most. For example, I love dogs, and a lot of car commercials use dogs to promote as an emotional factor. That works because dogs catch my eye and makes me want to watch. #UW201
@TheoDougie I definitely am more inclined to buy a product after seeing an advertisement. But I do find that a lot of the time I like to see a person using the product in reality/day-day life for me to think its worthy of buying, which is super interesting. #UWJ201 #319
@PrineRhianna There is no concrete way to mediate the public's media diet, since we all have different ones. While depriving the public of media wouldn't help, I am not sure what would. There have been health warnings from social media and news, yet no difference in consumption. #UWJ201 #319
@GabrielleWatry I think interpretation is the most prevalent. We as a society have shifted tremendously, also changing what news is important and the definition of what news is now. It defines what the news means as well as sets the stage for framing, which is really significant. #UWJ201 #319
#UWJ201 #319 The reading this week regarding fake news discusses the copious amounts of false info Trump publicized. While we see the amount he promotes fake news, how could he build back trust? How would he be able to fix his rep? What steps are necessary?
@PaytonBecker7 This question is so interesting, but definitely hard to answer. While covid+the election has provided plenty for us to talk about, if they had not happened, other things most likely would have happened. These things are just significantly big + taking over. #UWJ201 #319
@AlexaRappaport While I don't know enough to deem one most significant, I think that manipulation is the most important. I think it is utilized not necessarily the most, but utilized. I also think that manipulation is one that causes the most uproar and controversy. #UWJ201 #319
#UWJ201 This week, Prof. Wagner asked us "what is news/what makes news news?" A lot of people responded with relevance. Really, there is a lot of news that isn't relevant to us. Celebrities, news in other countries that we hear, etc. What makes that news news? #319
@sarah_gesner I think if protesters were given a voice outside of the heat of a live protest, it would change a lot. I do not think it would change the protesters narratives because they are still fighting for the same cause, although their response would most likely be more civil.#UWJ201 #319
@BellaDettlaff I definitely agree with this. A lot of times I mistake news for entertainment and vice versa. It's not until now that I realize there is a fine line that is blurred for viewers. #UWJ201 #319
Reading 3 from this week discussed episodic vs thematic framing on protest coverage. Episodic being focused on one thing or event, thematic being broad. Episodic framing in this case is bad. Where else do we see episodic framing besides protest coverage? #UWJ201 #319
@ecwalsh5 @prowag This week I realized a lot about my view of the media. I always say it doesn't affect me, but it affects SO many others. While listening to our lectures and questioning myself, I found that I have interpreted my dependence on media wrongly. I have been affected, too #UWJ201 #319
@isabellae_xoxo It seems that most commotion takes place virtually. Twitter, instagram, etc. we always see political tumult. Attention seeking is also another factor, where if candidates are getting along dandy, there is not as much attention brought. #UWJ201 #319
#UWJ201 We recently discussed the idea of framing in the media. This week, we discussed Hostile Media Effect. While framing is intentionally directing the viewer, Hostile Media Effect is the way the viewer interprets the media. Why is it that so often these methods cause uproar?
@isabellae_xoxo I proposed a question on the same topic. This something that has never made sense to me.. why did we make a shift from paper to virtual in the first place? I think it is a way for companies to get more money, but they are able to say it is "easier access." #UWJ201 #319
@EmiliaW91167202 aware that this is happening to us. I only have been able to realize this from this class; essentially, this class has made me analyze my social media intake, news articles specifically. (2/2)
@EmiliaW91167202 I have noticed a big change in the way I view news articles, specifically. Publishers alter and frame things in a specific way in order for us to perceive it that way. In some way, they control our thoughts with their words, pointing us in certain directions. We aren't even(1/1)
