I would agree with @napricer that I think Tik Tok is currently the most effective platform to market products on, especially ones intended for a younger audience. Influencers can talk positively about the product and try to popularize it and sell it to their fans.

I think that algorithms provide benefits to both the customer and the producer. The producer can market their products to people who they believe will have a true interest in what they are selling. The customer will be exposed to items that they are likely to enjoy.

In yesterday's guest lecture, Prof. Christy explained that perceived barriers are generally identified as the most influential factor in the Health Belief Model. What can be done to allow people to engage in health behaviors (financial, physical, social, etc.)?

After watching the Decode Jay-Z case study, I was intrigued by how marketers can so easily get people to think or react in a specific way. This made me wonder how often we as consumers are influenced by advertisements, and if there is any way to avoid it?
@Tori52074247 #UWJ201 #308
I definitely agree that it's important to utilize the central route, but I also feel that it is much easier to engage in the peripheral route. When I am not invested in a topic, I oftentimes do not try to think deeply about it, nor do I think about its credibility.

I definitely think that warning users of misinformation is the first step in trying to solve the issue of fake news that has become so problematic on social media. In addition, it is critical that platforms adopt even better ways to mitigate their content.

I feel like as people get older, there's a tendency to create more homogenous connections. Once an individual has a strong understanding of their values, it is easy to become complacent and to stop looking for ways to expand one's network.

People tend to be drawn to the newest inventions. Facebook was popularized before our generation was born, so it's often seen as a platform for older individuals. Platforms created recently are seen as more "trendy", so they have a greater appeal to younger audiences

Although entertainment is the primary content on social media, news has found a place on the platforms. Should people try and avoid social media news due to its biased nature, or is it the job of social media corporations to regulate the content more strictly?
@hallzzzee#UWJ201 #308
I believe that it is both the job of readers and journalists to engage in the way of skeptical knowing. Even when journalists try to write in an unbiased manner, this can be difficult to do, so it is the job of the readers to understand the content they encounter.
@EstelleXiao1#UWJ201 #308
As a reader, I am always very aware of the sources I get my news from, and question the authors' potential biases. I try to be skeptical while engaging with the news, as this prevents me from passively reading and engaging in false information.
#UWJ201 #308
Today we learned about how difficult it is for journalists to try and remain unbiased, because everyone has their own view on politics. Even while reading articles written by people who claim to be moderates, what are some ways in which we can uncover potential bias?
#UWJ201 #308
Today in lecture we learned that the internet made online news more abundant, but it didn't make people any more politically involved. Could this have been addressed in any way? For example, would adding more news channels and decreasing entertainment shows fix this?
@Sofia27517440#UWJ201 #308
I find it hard to believe that Disney could be bought. They are such a lucrative company that profits from various types of business such as theme parks, streaming services, theatrical services etc., so even one struggling business would not greatly impact them.
@samlarocca__#UWJ201 #308
Tik Tok definitely has a political influence on its users. About 32% of users are ages 10-19, and this is a time where people are very impressionable and try to figure out which party to support. People who don't typically follow politics can heavily rely on the app.

After learning about Graber’s Four Function of Journalism, I began to wonder how prominent each of the four are in everyday news coverage. Do you think any of the functions could be referred to as the "main function" or are they all utilized evenly?
@elliemilius1#UWJ201 #308
I believe the next most important would be balance. If a news source only covers one side of every story, not only would they be presenting stories that are biased/inaccurate, but they would anger the individuals who are seeking to learn about the opposing side.
@allisonlgardner#UWJ201 #308
I definitely agree that the reputations of these national news sources would be tarnished. People rely on these media outlets for the most accurate information, and just one flawed statement could make it very difficult for people to know what they should trust.

In Monday's lecture, we discussed the increase in news deserts across the U.S. With the reliance that our society has on online news, including news sites and social media news, will these be enough to thoroughly educate these individuals on important local issues?
@evargold#UWJ201 #308
I definitely do not think that social media news is comparable to print newspapers, but they are certainly a good alternative for people who live in the news deserts, in order to expose them to some form of outside information.
