The moment @anuradisanayake gave space for @weerawansa_w to speak about corruption, and for @RajapaksaNamal and @alisabrypc to comment on the selective use of the Prevention of Terrorism Act against Tamils, he had already lost.
(What a time to be alive.)
President @anuradisanayake has signed off on yet another PTA detention order. This time, 24-year-old musician A. Sathurshan has reportedly been remanded under the PTA over a song. Shameful behavior from a government that promised to repeal the PTA.

I know that lying is part of politics. But Anura and his comrades, who have made lying itself a new form of politics, are something else.
Without policies, governments fail. Without principles, politicians destroy. Sadly, we are witnessing both at the same time.
The assassination of Dan Priyasad raises grave concerns regarding the current state of public security in Sri Lanka. While I have consistently opposed his actions—and was personally subjected to threats of physical violence by him during the Mullivaikal memorial event in Borella several years ago—his killing, irrespective of his political alignment, constitutes part of a disturbing pattern of escalating violence witnessed across the country in recent months. In this context, public confidence in the government’s assurances that efforts are underway to suppress underworld activity is deeply undermined by the continued occurrence of such incidents.
How do we make sense of President AKD now endorsing actions he once condemned as unjust, a violation of human rights, and even treason?
Is it that
1.He didn’t know what he was talking about then — pure ignorance?
2.Or he did and it was deliberate sabotage for political gain?
Remember the island-wide blackout on Feb 9, 2025?
⭕️ Beyond the economic losses from 6+ hours without power, it cost CEB an extra ~4 Billion LKR (4,000 Million) to supply power in subsequent days using diesel plants etc.
⭕ Sri Lanka's annual electricity demand is around 16 billion kWh (8 billion for 6 months). This 4 billion LKR extra cost adds 4 billion LKR / 8 billion kWh = 50 cents per unit of electricity.
⭕ In simpler terms, if you consume 100 units per month, you will be subject to an increase of Rs. 50 in your electricity bill in the June/July electricity tariff revision due to this blackout alone.
⭕️ To contextualize 4 Billion LKR in Sri Lanka's budget terms:
Allocation for: Export Agriculture Promotion - 250 Million LKR
▫️ Primary Education Modernization - 500 M
▫️ Tourism Promotion & Branding - 500 M
▫️ Commercialization of Research & Innovation - 1,000 M
▫️ Digital Economy Advancement - 3,000 M
▫️ Public Transport Modernization - 3,000 M
⭕️The leaders who run the country, along with most citizens, fail to grasp the immense scale of entities like SriLankan Airlines, the CEB, CPC, Ports Authority, Customs, and the IRD etc compared to other institutions. The government would better serve the public by prioritizing these key institutions and keeping them under continuous oversight. Even a modest 1% improvement in their efficiency would have a 100x the impact of minor cost-saving measures elsewhere.

Proud to lead by example! The National Development Front conducted our entire election campaign without a single poster—adhering fully to Election Commission guidelines and protecting our environment. Meanwhile, other parties like SJB, NPP, and Gas Cylinder have plastered illegal posters across Sri Lanka.

@nomadic_sanjee,
Apologies for the delay in getting back to you.
As an emerging party, UCF has not been issuing formal statements on various international crises at this stage. However, our President has previously shared our sentiments during an interview last year.
We categorically condemn violence against civilians and emphasize that collateral damage can no longer be justified or accepted in conflicts, especially when the risks to civilian lives are apparent and avoidable.
We stand in unequivocal condemnation of the ongoing violence and humanitarian crises in Gaza, Myanmar, and Ukraine. While each conflict has its own complex historical and political background, we firmly believe that the suffering of civilians is unacceptable, regardless of the context. We call upon all parties involved to prioritize peace, adhere to international law, and engage in constructive dialogue to protect innocent lives and work toward a lasting resolution.
UCF remains committed to advocating for peaceful solutions, human rights, and humanitarian support, recognizing that true progress can only be made through respectful negotiation and an end to violence on all sides.
The UCF is ready. We are contesting this upcoming general election representing all the districts in Sri Lanka 🇱🇰

Ahead of general elections, none of the current frontrunner teams are truly inclusive, no? Gender, ethnic, religious, etc… key to governing a diverse country, I would think. One team displays a single woman. One team has a smattering of Muslim names. @CentenarySL got it right.
