On 17.05., the Russian peatland scientist & conservationist Andrey Sirin unexpectedly died in St. Petersburg. Andrey was Head of the Institute of Forest Science, @IPCC_CH author, #GPA lead author, long-term #IMCG member and associate editor of "Mires and Peat". He will be missed.

@UWECWorkGroup @IcoEpl1 That is a great job you are doing. We saw many times how hopeless the International Conventions are in solving the "hot issues" by addressing only long-term policies. But it is wise to bring this information to the upcoming COPs in November (UNFCCC, Ramsar).

The irony here is extreme. Much of Ukraine’s peatlands were drained by the Soviet Union regime. Drainage makes those peat-rich areas absolute quagmires for transit or logistics. The peatlands #StandWithUkriane.

@queenofpeat Considering in a model is good, however, acting is better. For ten years I try to convince expert society to start counting emissions from ecosystem disturbance in the Arctic and Arctic ecosystem restoration as an activity under NBSs. but everybody thinks I'm totally screwed.
