Computer teachers in Punjab have been serving government schools for over two decades, yet many of their long-standing promises remain unfulfilled. Approximately 6,640 of them continue to work under the Punjab Information and Communication Technology Education Society rather than as fully regularised employees of the Education Department, despite a government notification issued on 2 December 2010 and subsequent appointment letters in 2011.

Successive administrations, including commitments in election manifestos and a specific announcement by the Education Minister on 15 September 2022, had raised hopes of equal service conditions, pay benefits, and social security. These assurances have yet to translate into complete action on the ground.The human cost of the delay is particularly stark for the families of those who have passed away. Union representatives report that 114 computer teachers have died during their years of service, while five others have retired, without the full benefits that regular government employees routinely receive. Their dependents continue to await social security measures, death compensation policies, and employment opportunities on compassionate grounds—provisions commonly extended to the kin of other state employees.

This disparity has left many households in prolonged financial and emotional hardship.Recent protests organised by the Computer Teachers Union Punjab underscore the growing frustration. Teachers have staged demonstrations, including planned statewide actions around Independence Day, calling for implementation of the 2010 regularisation order, release of pending dearness allowance under earlier pay commission terms, and a clear death-benefit policy. They also point to a favourable High Court ruling that the government chose to challenge rather than implement. The collective appeal remains straightforward: fulfil the promises made to serving computer teachers and extend the same employment and support measures to the 114 aggrieved families of deceas

Respected Sir/Madam,
I am writing this appeal with a heavy heart to bring to your immediate attention a grave injustice within our state’s education department.
A dedicated Computer Teacher, who served the Punjab Government with unwavering commitment for 20 long years, has recently passed away. Despite having a regular appointment and spending two decades shaping the digital future of our students, his family now stands at a crossroads of financial ruin. They are being denied the standard death-cum-retirement benefits (DCRG), family pension, and ex-gratia grants that are naturally accorded to other government teachers.
The Core of the Injustice:
* Two Decades of Service: This teacher gave his youth and his professional life to the state’s mission of "Digital Punjab."
* Discriminatory Treatment: It is heartbreaking that after 20 years of "regular" service, a teacher is treated as a "second-class" employee upon death. The lack of a pension and social security for Computer Faculty is a violation of the principle of "Equal Pay for Equal Work" and the right to a dignified life for their dependents.
* Family in Crisis: While other government employees leave behind a safety net for their children and spouses, this teacher’s family has been left with nothing but grief and debt.
Our Prayers to the Government:
* Immediate Financial Assistance: Grant an immediate ex-gratia payment to the bereaved family to cover their urgent needs.
* Implementation of Full Benefits: Treat the service of Computer Faculty on par with the Education Department's regular cadre for the purpose of family pensions and death benefits.
* Compassionate Appointment: Provide a government job to one eligible member of the family to ensure their long-term survival.
The Computer Teachers of Punjab have been the backbone of our modern education system. To deny their families a livelihood after 20 years of service is not just an administrative lapse; it is a moral failure.
We urge you to intervene personally and ensure that this family receives the dignity and financial justice they deserve.
