@JEChalmers Tiny tax cuts that will get eaten up by inflation
It always sounds great to bring taxation of labour and capital closer together, but is the problem that capital is taxed too little, or labour too much?
Bracket creep is real, and erodes quality of life massively
@David_McMahon75 100% correct. Even if you assume less lending by banks, shares (or any other investment) has to outperform housing by 300-400% to have similar performance
Watch rents go up, and house prices go up
You can’t make this stuff up - Chalmers is going to make investing in shares more attractive by taxing it more.
That’s cleared that up, now we can move onto making gambling more attractive by taxing that too.
@chrisbrycki Property is still attractive due to leverage
200k cash buys you 1m house, but you can also index cost base 5x
Makes property still more attractive than alternatives (shares etc), I fail to see how this will dampen prices long term. Incentive to hold ultra long term too
@andy_surfie@PizzinoMichael If btc ran to 200k now, would you then open a 3-5x leverage position on it?
It’s not dissimilar from what a lot of real estate speculators are doing right now
2/3 of banking in Oz is mortgages currently ; what if bank profitability dries up as real estate falls?
