Finally got to read @JonahDispatch's mid-week G-File. Phenomenal. "He is not evil’s best friend, but he’s hardly its worst nightmare. Because he’s nobody’s, no idea’s, no cause’s best friend." https://t.co/mumRuoVYvj
This was another terrible example of how Congress giving up its rightful power (and Trump usurping it) hurt his credibility: There was no time spent in the public square arguing for the necessity of this war. So, when the war ends with this supposed deal, we get this nonsense:
I will never fall for this crap. As much as I loathe the Republican Party and its leader, I will never forget how Obama and his team demonized Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan. It’s easy to say this stuff post-presidency; he didn’t say this or live it out when it truly mattered.
Obama: "Values every president here today, as different as we are, has tried our best to uphold. Values that John McCain and Mitt Romney believed in no less than I did."
@EWErickson Hold on, @EWErickson. Are you telling me that the JD Vance, Vice President to serial liar Donald J. Trump, wasn't honest when talking to Sean Hannity on Fox News? This realization has shook me to my core.
@EsotericCD Sure? Can I also admit that, as someone who lives over 500 miles from said reflecting pool, I have not spent a second's worth of time thinking about the cleanliness of it, and neither have the vast majority of those who are opining one way or the other?
@RyanHanaWWP Sure? I’d say it’s at least a bit incumbent on said star to, you know, even moderately step up his game in important stretches of the season. In that regard, Larkin has not covered himself in glory the last three seasons. (I’m sure you largely agree, btw.)
@ringer@BillSimmons This looks great on paper, but don't think it comes close to 2016. The finally-healthy Cavs team with apex Lebron going up against the 73-win Warriors, who just eked past OKC in a WCF bloodbath. This year? Young Spurs team against a NYK team that cruised through a weak East. Eh.
@pistons_jack I agree. These guys shouldn't be about instant, hot-take opinions. They don't have to fill three hours every day or an hour+ of TV. They're supposed to have thoughtful takes. OKC lost in Game 7 without their second-best player, to a great up-and-coming team with an Alien.
“Quite a lot” sure does some heavy lifting here. There’s always some pretzel-twisting logic to make it about the other candidate’s policies instead of your own side’s character. The inverse would be true, too, if necessary.
Character still matters quite a lot, don't let anyone tell you otherwise. That said, there are plenty of times you have no good choices. Those times don't let you off the hook from the hard moral weighing of the stakes - as I walked through in 2022 https://t.co/eYTs393SbB
@jaynordlinger Keep doing what you're doing and writing what you're writing, Jay. There's still a small group of us – a remnant, if you will – that believes in those things.
@marcthiessen He's a loony lefty. Duh. The GOP just had to nominate a normal candidate. What are they about to do? Nominate the impeached, disgraced, horrible Paxton. They will get what they deserve. Character doesn't matter to them...except the theological views of their opponents? How dumb.
@DKThomp Cont’d from previous: “The presumption that the evils of our enemies can justify any indecency is the opposite of a moral principle.” That is a principle that conservatives (conservative Christians in particular) used to preach with great fervor. Painfully, noticeably silent now.
@DKThomp This should stop any reader in his tracks: “The reasoning ‘…but Biden was also bad’ does not make contact with an ethical principle. It is a moral blank check made out to the administration that promises to cover the cost of any transgression.”
