@SactoDude84@ObiToddForever@filmingwanderer Exactly. Would have been the same with any OT hero at the helm. Akbar, Leia herself, any of them. It had to be someone the audience could root against until the reveal. People mad about this are just annoyed they felt tricked, but, like a good mystery, the breadcrumbs are there
@filmingwanderer All of this, yes. The reason the reveal of Holdo’s plan works on the audience is because we have been trained to see Poe’s actions as heroic, like he does. But the “hot-shot flyboy routine is as risky as it is brave and is not the temperament of a leader.
@FranklinH3000 I really don’t think that’s the implication. Luke protests in the way many children/students respond to the death of a parent/mentor. Yoda’s response expresses that the Force doesn’t grant unnatural lifespan. “Oh Luke…I may be powerful, but even I am not immortal.”
@KirbyCheatFurby Everything about this is so off. Kennedy is awful, has no charisma and can’t animate his face. They don’t even try with transitions, just cut to a whole new set each time. I’m convinced Kennedy sang with how bad it is, but no attempt at lip syncing. Big, bad costumes. MAGA Mask.
@jonaspeterson@charlie_brass@Variety You’re right about Sicario and Hell or Highwater. I liked Wind River, too. That said, I’ve been really disappointed by how mediocre everything else has been. I’d say his latest stuff is absolutely overrated.
@BeansGoodTakes Also, I doubt even they knew, but was Sofia Boutella supposed to return after The Mummy?
My understanding was that they took the one female character in this lineup and had Tom Cruise kiss her to death and take her place as “The Mummy” going forward.
@JuanterRG@rulimaquina@Unohanabbygirl I think it’s a deliberate illustration of how cruel the world of ASOIAF (and our own) is and an example of just what you said. Arya has witnessed so much darkness that she doesn’t dwell on the acts themselves, but on vengeance against the perpetrators, which is her whole deal.
@wheatwitch@Unohanabbygirl You can hate how he depicts these topics. Even reject his reasons for conveying them this way. But claiming that he’s a pervert fantasizing through his work about sexually assaulting women? That’s too much. There are real, known monsters out there. Focus your energy at them.
@CarterJose71404@RealCGriff Luke almost killed his father. He did not try to kill Ben. He was tempted to and considered it, which is why he blames himself. Han is not in The Last Jedi. The new characters have no direct 1-1 counterparts from the OT.
Rian Johnson understands Star Wars better than you 🤷
@Phormio_Lake@CosmonautMarcus@Catlover10000S The prequels literally killed Star Wars for a decade and buried Lucas’s plan for sequels.
Besides, TFA and especially TLJ are much stronger films than any of the prequels.
That said, having nostalgia for TROS is a hat on a hat.
@deadlinky@Knightly_Hist Thank you! Cuts work for action sequences when done correctly. When they preserve the momentum and add to the kinetic feel of the action. Think Bourne, not Taken 3 fence jumping. The latter is egregious not just for how many cuts it has, but because he’s just climbing a fence.
@Lotcko@Knightly_Hist I don’t think it is here. His trainer was his stunt double and only stepped in for more complex acrobatics. Pascal was definitely capable of the spinning shown in the clip. I really think the cuts were a style choice to display Oberyn’s flair and speed.
@DolkkiDolkki@Knightly_Hist Not arguing about the number of cuts. My entire point is that it feels deliberate, rather than a decision motivated by necessity or sloppy work. This is not Liam Neeson climbing a fence. I also don’t believe it’s hiding his stunt double in this clip. Pretty sure that’s all Pedro.
@retneysholocron Emperor figure is eliminated > Palpatine is back and has been behind everything, including Snoke
Kylo destroys his helmet and his goal of becoming Vader > his helmet is repaired (and cooler now - for the toy sales!)
Anakin’s saber is split in two > jk it’s been fixed offscreen
@retneysholocron TLJ is my favorite SW movie. Because I loved all of the swings RJ took with that film, I fail to force myself to sit through a TROS rewatch. It retcons so much of TLJ so fast, it feels like the creators were its harshest haters. This decision is one of the first offenders.
@spencerr0905 I’m still bitter that I was limited to only 3v3 for Crucible in Destiny 1 because I didn’t buy The Taken King.
They stripped out access to game modes in multiplayer if you didn’t have the paid (primarily campaign focused) expansion. Ridiculous.
@TOTK_Stannis@bouncyrou Yeah. Everything would be much different, obviously. Ned on the Wall with Jon. It’s a brilliant twist by Martin. Making the twist seem to be the hero of the story being defeated, but with the suggestion that he’d then be sent to where we know the real fight is brewing.
