Rishi Kaņāda - WATER CYCLE
Four thousand years ago, Rishi Kaņāda discussed water cycle in exactly the same way in which NASA and other scientists discuss today.
The amazing point is, Kaņāda mentions evaporation, transpiration, condensation, precipitation and collection systematically, just in four sutras. Much more amazing is, Kaņāda Maharshi clearly, definitely mentions gravitation.
In the fifth chapter [2nd ahnika] is principally about water. There are four sutras:
1. Evaporation and Transpiration:
Water rises [ārohanam] as vapour due to heated sun rays due to temperature [nāḑyaḥ] and air contact [vāyu samyoga].
2. Condensation:
The impulse of squeezing or condensation [nodana-pîḑana] and mutual combination with other molecules [samyukta-samyoga] makes for clouds.
3. Precipitation:
When the waters lose bonding [samyogābhāva], water drops fall due to gravitation.
4. Collection:
Water flows due because of fluidity [dravatvat]
