Chris Dobbins, a Flight Director at @NASA_Johnson, first visited Challenger Learning Center of Woodstock (Illinois) during a field trip in 2001 when he was in the 5th grade. Read his story: https://t.co/zIbgGO9IOq @ChallengerStaff@NASA@NASApeople#STEM#STEMeducation#Space
Guess who visited the @ChallengerStaff Learning Center Woodstock in 5th grade? 'I actually got to be a flight controller in a mission control. After that day, I knew I had to find a way to get to Houston and do the job for real.' @ChallengerCtr https://t.co/wCJo9DUh8p
Survivor Camp! We built shelters, made tools to help us in emergency situations, learned to read a compass, went on a scavenger hunt, and watched an episode of MythBusters -- Duct Tape Island! Our crew also learned about edible plants! Survivor Campers are prepared for anything!
Check out our campers from Super Hero camp!
We designed our own super heroes! We worked with some tech sidekicks, tested our strength by building bridges, ran a super speed agility course, and tested our camouflage (invisibility) skills! Can you find our heroes' hidden objects?
Check out our post about our GEMS camp! We had a very busy and exciting week with our Girls in Engineering, Math, and Science! (SO much fun we couldn't fit it on Twitter!)
Astronaut Training finished up last week as well! Our campers completed their training with homemade Mars Habitat models and a simulated Mission to Mars. Our astronauts identified what a livable habitat on Mars would require, and had a successful Expedition Mars mission!
Last Friday we wrapped up Junior Space Explorers camp! We launched stomp rockets, created craters, made our own solar system, planted seeds, played with robotics, made UV bracelets, tried astronaut ice cream, and even got to check out our Mission Control and Spacecraft simulator!
We have Astronaut Training this week too! Straw rockets, space shuttle building, Ozobots and coding, MOSS robotics, Mars Habitats, astronaut agility, oh my! We've been having so much fun the time has been flying by. Only 2 days until our astronauts take their mission to Mars!
We're almost halfway through our Junior Space Explorers summer camp! Our 2nd-4th graders have been hard at work-- so far we've made planet fans and used augmented reality technology, built robots, and made straw rockets!
We have had some great groups coming to us for field trips lately! It's always terrific when they have fun with us (and how could they not?!)! We recently received this AMAZING thank you note from Prairiewood Elementary School and we couldn't appreciate it more.
If you or anyone you know is interested in our summer camps, make sure you check out our website! We are offering options for students entering grades 2-8, including camps such as Robot Rendezvous, Astronaut Training, Junior Space Explorers, Survival, Super Hero, and GEMS!
Check out this article from the Woodstock Independent! Two graduates of Woodstock North High School working in space law are fundraising to help send at least 3 minority students to our summer camps!
