Business owner. CEO. General manager. Partner.
Pay close attention to the person on your team who is exceptionally creative when it comes to getting revenge.
If they’ll dedicate that much intelligence, energy, and patience to destroying someone they believe wronged them, don’t fool yourself into thinking you’re immune.
One day, you’ll disappoint them.
And when that day comes, the same weapon they used for you will be used against you.
Vindictiveness is a character trait—not a skill or strategy.
In my experience, there are few liabilities more expensive than an insecure or vindictive employee. Talent can build a business. Character determines whether it survives.
I don’t hire for brilliance alone. I hire for emotional maturity.
Because I’ve learned this the hard way:
The people who love retaliation rarely stop at your enemies. Eventually, they come for you.
Here’s something worth noticing.
If you’re reading this, you’re… alive.
That sounds obvious until you realize how rarely we stop long enough to notice it.
We live in a culture that profits from panic. Algorithms reward outrage. Certainty gets more clicks than curiosity. We can know what’s happening everywhere in the world and still have no idea what’s happening inside ourselves.
Maybe that’s the real poverty?
Yes, evil exists.
It always has.
Always will.
So does goodness.
I want to be better.
Not louder. Not more certain. Better.
I want to move closer to home—not an address, but the person I was created to become. I’m grateful to be doing that work here, in the United States—the story I happened to be born into and now have the privilege of helping write.
Is America messy?
Absolutely.
So am I.
We’re 250 years into one of history’s boldest experiments. Freedom has always been expensive. Growth has always been uncomfortable. Becoming has always been messy.
Any entrepreneur knows this.
Any parent knows this.
Anyone who’s ever tried to change knows this.
The joy isn’t at the finish line.
It’s found in the fight to become.
Maybe nations work the same way.
Maybe America is still becoming.
Still learning.
Still stumbling.
Still reaching.
I hope we don’t lose the thread that started this whole experiment: that freedom is stronger than fear, faith is more durable than despair, and love—lived, not merely posted—still outlasts hate.
The older I get, the less interested I am in condemning entire groups of people. My own story has too many scars. Too many failures. Too much grace.
So today, I’ll choose curiosity over certainty.
Hope over hostility.
Grace over grievance.
Not because it’s easy.
Because it’s the only way I’ve found to become the person I want to be.
Happy Independence Day 🇺🇸
Some of the biggest health risks are the ones we see every day and never question.
Just because it’s normal doesn’t mean it’s harmless.
