@PresssWs@exxhibit_c Sure I just think as socialists it’s important to not lose track of what our goals are by blurring the lines. We can back Steyer and push left, I just think it’d be dangerous to misplace labels and forget that while Steyer has utility, social democracy is still liberalism.
@exxhibit_c I don’t disagree about Steyer being better than Becerra, that wasn’t my point. It’s just goofy to act like Steyer’s supporters aren’t also under the umbrella of liberalism. Becerra is an establishment neoliberal and Steyer is a more progressive liberal.
@PresssWs@exxhibit_c Social democracy is a type of liberalism (at least the modern Social Democracy which Steyer belongs to), it is just distinct from neoliberalism which Becerra exemplifies.
@michaeloburns I agree, but shouldn’t this extend to DSA telling people to not vote for the socialist on the governor ballot and instead for the non-socialist Steyer? If it’s just about the principle of backing socialists and not who on the “left” has the best chance, the party shouldn’t matter
@katewillett@michaeloburns What happens when you have a fake party with no real central power. Certainly there’s at least a middle ground to find between a principled ML party and this.
@katewillett I’m voting Ramsey. I’m not a “you should never vote for a Democrat” person but this is a primary election in California. I will not be giving any non-DSA Democrat my vote in a California primary if I have left alternative.
@ydsTrey for a candidate before and that includes during the Bernie runs. From my perspective, I’d already consider this campaign a success for that alone.
@ydsTrey running a socialist in the primaries can be really helpful. As someone in a centrist dem California district with no DSA presence, this is the first time I’ve ever seen my area engage with socialism. I’ve literally never seen young people here even get excited cont.
@barbarismcrit Who does SMC even want us to do?? What purpose does attacking PSL serve here when there isn’t even a DSA candidate running for governor. They probably want to endorse Steyer so bad but can’t handle the backlash
@DSASocMaj I could understand this if PSL was running against some likely to win DSA endorsed candidate. But there is no DSA candidate or anyone even leftist other than Ramsey and Ware. What does SMC want us to do here? Is this some subtle way of pushing people to Steyer?
@DSASocMaj Just repeating over and over the importance of leftist solidarity then preceding to punch left. There is some poorly hidden disdain for PSL in that article which is certainly not good for leftist unity. The whole DSA movement was built by two failed Presidential runs.
@ColeSandick You guys complain about “ultras” in debates about what you need to see to vote for Democrat politicians. If that is even a question, you’re not dealing with ultras.
@FarkusBuckmeyer@politburito A socialist government would of course print money. What is wrong is the post claiming the socialist solution to poverty is printing money and giving it to people. Socialism lifts people out of poverty with the means of production themselves.
@Bunny_ngl Idk if it was just a thing at my high school but the straight guys and lesbians hung out all the time. At least half of my friends were lesbians
