Last night, I had the honor of receiving @NYPDMuslim’s Woman of the Year Award.

It’s not lost on me what this represents: the first female Jewish Police Commissioner in the history of the NYPD being recognized by our Muslim Officers Society.

This could only happen in New York — a city where every faith is practiced, every language is spoken, and every tradition has a home. And only in the NYPD could those differences be carried into the same calling and bound together into service.

Service can bridge any divide because the values we carry into this job rise above the lines of faith or culture.

Thank you to the @NYPDMuslim for strengthening the NYPD and deepening the bonds between our cops and the communities we serve.
