8:17 - My feminist neighbor complained about the snow woman's voluptuous chest saying it objectified snow women everywhere.

8:20 - The gay couple living nearby threw a hissy fit and moaned it could have been two snow men instead.

8:22 - The transgender man..women...person asked why I didn't just make one snow person with detachable parts.

8:25 - The vegans at the end of the lane complained about the carrot nose, as veggies are food and not to decorate snow figures with.

8:28 - I was being called a racist because the snow couple is white.

8:31 - The middle eastern gent across the road demanded the snow woman be covered up .

8:40 - The Police arrived saying someone had been offended.

8:42 - The feminist neighbor complained again that the broomstick of the snow woman needed to be removed because it depicted women in a domestic role.

8:43 - The council equality officer arrived and threatened me with eviction.

8:45 - TV news crew from BBC showed up. I was asked if I know the difference between snowmen and snow-women? I replied "Snowballs" and am now called a sexist.

9:00 - I was on the News as a suspected terrorist, racist, homophobe sensibility offender, bent on stirring up trouble during difficult weather.

9:10 - I was asked if I have any accomplices. My children were taken by social services.

9:29 - Far left protesters offended by everything marched down the street demanding for me to be arrested.

By noon it all melted

This is pure fantasy Jess (irony) and I'll engage them in good faith, although I suspect you will ignore it.

1. RE Subsidies

Yes, subsidies incentivise due to high capital costs, but they are absolutely not cheaper on a lifetime basis and I challenge you to evidence that.

Subsidies are index linked so start high and remain high. There isn't a single RE project in operation that is cheaper than gas fired electricity.

2. O&G subsidies

We do not subsidise fossil fuels. They receive no direct subsidies in the UK. What usually happens here is that you try to conflate tax breaks which business gets on losses as a subsidy, which works differently but equally in the O&G sector because the Treasury has a different method that gives them move up front revenue but leads to greater end of life rebates. But it's certainly not subsidies.

3. Merit Order

Gas has been cheaper than renewables for the entirety of history except for 10 month in 2022. Gas setting the price in the wholesale market has no bearing on the cost of renewables because they get paid outside the wholesale market.

In fact, renewables only win in the merit order because they get paid outside the wholesale market, so they can bid anything they like into the day ahead market.

If RE competed on the market equally with all other technologies then they would be last in the merit order and would never be used.

4. Increasing RE costs

Renewables prices have not increased because of gas. They have increased because they were only cheap on the back of low interest rates and massive amounts of global QE increased interest rates. Also there have been rises in the costs of the minerals required for manufacturing.

Added to this is the fact that the low hanging fruit for wind has been picked. For offshore sites are having to go further out and into deeper waters, meaning higher costs.

Gas prices are pretty much back to pre Ukraine levels so why have prices not dropped again? In fact they are asking for more increases in the cap.

5. "Wind is cheaper"

Gas fired electricity is £65/MWh including carbon tax. The cheapest RE in operation is Moray East at £78.

The average cost of solar is £185. The average cost of onshore is £138 and offshore is £191 per MWh. Not even close.

Only for 10 months in history has gas been more expensive, and only once since the 70's has there been a price shock that had such a huge effect on the O&G market.

The idea that we should overpay massively for renewables to ward off a future shock is extremely weak and illogical.

6. Batteries

This is an astounding misleading claim. We have about 2 minutes of battery storage. The grid does not use them for backup storage and never will, a single day of battery storage at current prices would cost £300b.

The grid uses batteries for smoothing. For example, when waiting for a gas station to kick in when wind drops off or everyone brewing up at half time.

7. Government LCOE

DESNZ's LCOE numbers are obvious garbage.

For one, the gas number is majority carbon tax. Which is clearly bogus as the carbon tax is nowhere near that.

But anyone not intentionally being misleading would ask, "If the LCOE of wind is £44 for new projects in 2025, why did I just have to defend price caps of £103 and £88 for wind that will not start building until 2026/27 earlier in my own thread?"

You have compiled every deceit used to fool the gullible public into a single thread in an effort to debunk a correct article.

I would be very interested to debate this with you Jess, and I'd like to see you try prove me wrong.
