@RachelP98790916 This is very important! Sharing different cultures and perspectives between one another online is crucial for the growth and communication between people. #lesson12
@RuestChloe I agree it is scary but like you say its the right way to get a reality check. Often people sugar coat things and events such as the war in the middle east should not be sugar coated because it is very serious and we should be aware of it. #lesson12
@JForianEDUC @Christa60721022 Yes! I love that we are connected globally and can enhance our knowledge of these situations from different perspectives especially being exposed to the raw truth through the eyes of the protesters as seen on the YouTube videos. #lesson12
@StaubNicholas I agree, the Western media often doesn't draw importance on middle eastern conflict and war which is bad. We should be able to be exposed to the reality of what they are facing and in an accurate way not by the biased Western interpreted way. #lesson12
Being connected online globally makes a difference in how we see the world because it gives us different perspectives. Example: YouTube is great for posting live events that are raw and real which gives us a different view of a situation that is different from the news #lesson12
@RathodShadhu@PSYCMAJ2 Yes for sure we are slowly advancing, however there is still a lack of movie producers who are of colour or even women producers. I would like to see that change especially in Disney because children should gain from the perspectives of different individuals #lesson11
Additionally, the producers, creators and owners of Disney are majority white men who hold the power in society. The patriarchal influence and racist ideologies are very prominent and these ideas are spread to young children. #lesson11
@B16Marghe They have a huge influence and should instead use that to their advantage. If they want us to consume they should at least make it something accurate and educational of what they portray! #lesson11
I believe that Disney being a large corporation has an effect on viewers because no matter what we are exposed to it all the time and this shapes our beliefs. The way we are socialized is influenced by the media and Disney is so wide spread its impossible to avoid #lesson11
@B16Marghe@Christa60721022 I agree so much about the body image it is truly always the same body type depicted as being beautiful and "seducing". I cant believe this is being taught to children #lesson11
@PSYCMAJ2 Not saying they are all white men however the majority of powerful men at the time were producing which relates to white privilege even today in Hollywood most producers are men therefore we get their perspective instead of another race because they are given more power #lesson11
@Christa60721022 I agree this was such an eye opening documentary and I have already recommended it to others. This is hands down my favourite lesson .#lesson11
@SarahGo99568098 Very true, and often we do not pay enough attention to what kids are picking up on and how they conceive of what is shown to them #Lesson11
@AlexisS05765933 In my opinion its crucial to analyze these movies because if we don't then we are just consuming these products blindly and feeding these underlying toxic messages to children. This is what the large companies want they want us to be blind and buy buy without thinking #lesson11
@AureliusKheila@ange_t307 I still believe that most of the time women in Disney movies such as Princesses are portrayed to be weaker, seductive and at times even less intelligent. I believe this to be toxic because people feed into these ideas about women. #lesson11
@SarahGo99568098 I believe that a lot of people disregard just how much children are influenced by the media and it has a severe impact on forming our belief system therefore I do believe unconsciously we form associations even if we don't think we realize it therefore it negatively influences us
@Christina2817 I believe that it does have negative implications because at a young age we are exposed to stereotypes and misconceptions about different races/gender and cultures. We should be using these entertaining movies productively by educating even at a young age. #lesson11
I do believe that racial/ethnic portrayals in Disney films have improved very slightly with the Princess and the Frog as it is a black woman as a main character however there is so much more to be done to portray racial/ethnic characters #lesson11
@alexa_broster I agree! Women like Emma Watson who we grew up watching using her platform to raise awareness is great and provides women of all ages with a role model. She truly is inspirational #lesson10
