We draw attention to the case of Habibu Adamu (Habke), who has been illegally detained for over 13 years, in violation of a valid court order for his release, issued by the Federal High Court, Abuja, on December 19, 2014.

Detaining a Nigerian citizen for nearly 14 years without a court trial is a gross violation of citizens’ rights. Habibu was denied his right to due process which contravenes the fundamental rights enshrined in the Nigerian Constitution and International conventions like the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR).

This has not only devastated Habibu’s life as a family man with children and dependents but also undermined confidence in the criminal justice system.

We call on the Nigerian government to release Habibu Adamu and ensure that justice is served in this unfortunate case. We’ve written to @SenateNGR, @PoliceNG, @Official_ONSA, @MODInfoNg and @NigAirforce requesting his release.
