https://t.co/mqhKATB20M This is public money. Surely the mayor's position is becoming untenable. Too many smoke screens, deflections and obfuscations. Even if no law has been broken, this is just rank bad stewardship of public finance. @PrivateEyeNews
@MichaelCGlasper Vickers is an embarrassment. I don't think he's taken a breath during @BBCNewsnight - and no answer to Boris Johnson lying or Liz Truss breaking the economy. I cannot believe that he's trying to blame Starmer for the fact we're so skint.
@BBCTees So the "thousands of jobs" that Ben Houchen promised that this was going to create have now disappeared? And in large part because Teesworks Ltd (Corney and Musgrave?) decided that there's more money to be made by utilising the power grid there for data centres? Is that right?
Devastated. #ripmani I saw the Roses play in Newcastle in summer 1989. It was on recommendation; I hadn't heard much by them. I left thinking "wow that guitar, bass and drums combo is amazing". That funky bass was unreal.
@BBCTees Did anyone ask him why he promised a new hospital during his election campaign knowing full well that he had no way of delivering it without Government backing? Ben - full of empty promises. Still spending tax payers money subsidising every flight out of Teesside airport too.
What a shame that #MikePeters has lost his fight with health issues. I met him many times in pubs in Stockton (of all places) and he always remembered my name. The first time I met him I bought him a pint;the next time I met him he bought me one! A smashing bloke who'll be missed
@annaturley If there has been mismanagement then there has got to be action. If this was a local council with poor governance then the government would intervene and appoint an executive board to take over. Millions have clearly been spent unwisely. There needs to be an intervention.
Absolutely dreadful reporting from @BBCNews Ten O'clock news.
@BBCsarahsmith implying that the pincer movement orchestrated on Zelenskyy by Trump and Vance was the Ukrainian President's fault.
Come on BBC, report the facts, not the White House spin.
@teesbirds1 Ah thanks. It's lurking around the gardens here so will try and get a better shot. It was on the feeder earlier and seems to be hanging about with the other finches (good mixture of bull, green, gold and chaff).
@ColinM1956 @RachelReevesMP@Wi97665669Chris@SarahChampionMP@annaturley I visited Dalzell many times when I worked at Redcar. It was always recognised for its world beating ability to produce plate of not just excellent quality but a huge range of specs. A mate of mine works there now and he is furloughed on 2/3 pay the moment. Crazy!
Here’s my basic wish list for our government.
Immigration… Stop moaning about asylum seekers and branding them as illegals when all that’s needed is to actually process their applications. Most of them (statistically the huge majority) are legitimate so let them in. It’s called humanity. Easy. Simply get on with the job instead of leaving them to fester for years in hotels at the vulnerable mercy of shit-stirring idiots like Tommy or Fromage.
Secondly, stop helping a pariah state kill kids and civilians in Gaza or Lebanon and calling it self defence, you child-murdering maniacs. Netanyahu is a vicious, unbalanced, agressive nut job. That’s not antisemitism. That’s called evidence-based observation of continuous vengeful, indiscriminate murder for nearly a year. It’s wrong to kill kids… is that so bloody difficult to understand?
Thirdly, stop lazily branding the virtues of compassion and egalitarianism as “woke”. It makes fascists say and do even more stupid, dangerous things.
Fourth, hire more bobbies on the streets and train them to understand the actual law instead of acting on their personal prejudices or assumptions.
Fifth, stop pouring sewage into british waters.
Sixth, stop claiming ludicrous expenses and taking massive bribes as MP’s. Appoint an independent ombudsman to monitor whether MP expenses and personal financial support is reasonable.
Start taxing super rich corporations and close down the loopholes.
Give pensioners their winter fuel allowance.
Stop supporting paedophiles in politics, entertainment and the media by introducing enforceable laws around standards and ethics.
Control the economy by encouraging productivity as well as spending more to stimulate growth. We already know austerity is bullshit. It doesn’t work. Historical and empirical fact…
Put money into health and education.
Stop further privatising our healthcare and start supporting the NHS. It saves lives and is incredible when it works. Train more doctors and nurses and give financial incentives to bring more doctors from other countries.
Start valuing our climate and environment by thinking of sustainability not profit maximisation.
Control and stabilise the economy for everyone, not just the super rich. That means bring down inflation and runaway rents and house prices.
Stop allowing hostile international governments to influence our media, social media and politics with dirty money.
Shut down social media oligarch lunatics poisoning young people’s brains.
Bring back community street parties, youth clubs, community centres, social care, legal aid etc. Empower people. Bring them together.
Start promoting respect for others not hate and bigotry.
That.
@susannareid100 Did I read that over 35,000 pensioners that have been paid the WFA in the past actually live abroad? I don't want anyone to be cold this winter but means testing the payment is right. I am not an expert but the threshold being proposed seems too low so they should raise that.
