There is a reason they don't like to say the word "lost."

Listen carefully the next time an American politician or commentator talks about Vietnam. Notice the language.

"A difficult chapter."
"A divisive conflict."
"A war we couldn't win."
"A situation that didn't resolve the way we hoped."

They will contort the English language into extraordinary shapes to avoid the simple, accurate, devastating word:

Lost.

They lost.

Say it clearly.

The United States of America, with all its wealth and technology and military might and political will, went to Vietnam to impose its vision on a small, poor, agricultural country, and lost.

Completely. Unconditionally. Humiliatingly.

The political project they built collapsed. The regime they propped up for twenty years evaporated in days. The military they spent billions training and equipping folded so fast it shocked even the Vietnamese forces advancing on Saigon.

Everything they built there, everything they spent there, every life they spent there, it produced nothing they intended.

And now they tell you their sanctions are going to work. Their pressure campaigns are going to succeed. Their regime change operations are going to install cooperative governments. Their military presence in your region is going to convince you to stay in line.

Based on what track record?

Based on the track record of a country that spent a trillion dollars and twenty years and lost to farmers?

They are not speaking to you from a position of demonstrated competence.

They are speaking to you from a position of a country that has successfully convinced much of the world to forget what Vietnam proved about the limits of American power.

Don't forget.

I still genuinely don’t get the endgame. If the plan ends with a ruined planet, collapsed economies, and no working class left to spend money… what are billionaires actually hoarding wealth for?
