@ShawnAstrom @djpaulloraine Oh rad! Super cool to hear you were in that music scene. I actually used to DJ back in Tampa back in the 90’s playing breakbeat. I got into trance and house, but Tampa didn’t have much of a scene back then. I pressed a few tracks on vinyl also!
@cgpov What I’ve also noticed is that there seems to be an uptick in motion design currently, but the rates are about 30% - 40% lower than last year. Many recruiters have told me candidates are having to reduce their rates if they want work… Power is shifting back to the employers.
@cgpov Yeah, seems to be accurate. I’m wrapping up a long term contract gig at one of the FAANG tech companies, and have also noticed other tech companies hiring. Getting back into the freelance market, there seems to be an alarming amount of folks looking for work.
@FullHarbor Can’t emphasize enough the importance of a backup computer. Having your work machine go down in the middle of production will be a 99% chance of a panic attack 🤯
Some really good points in this thread. We always feel like we’re falling behind if we’re not learning something new every day. Finding a healthy balance is crucial.
Seeing so many artists posting "weekend practice" has me in a really weird headspace.
Props to them for following their passion, but if I want to keep growing, does that mean I gotta work weekends now to keep up?
@cgpov@j_ssuarez@GSG3D@cgpov - As a passionate user of GSG+, I think one request/hope is to get a better understanding of material fundamentals... There have been times when I needed to adjust/alter a material on a project, and wish I understood how certain nodes operated 🫶
@nickvegas Yup! I was a fan from the very beginning... But it has become increasingly evident that @GSG3D Plus is a MUST if you're using C4D. I'd even argue that it should be included in the Maxon One bundle 😎
@HayleyAkins I met my very first freelance client on a flight, while I was studying in art school. He was a CEO of an indoor skydiving company, and I showed him the web mock-ups I learned in class. He loved the demo, and hired me to do some work. Very friendly and awesome first client!
@cgpov Surprisingly, I’ve been using it as another source of inspiration and to keep a pulse on the industry. Artists and studios are posting their process and R&D to showcase their capabilities. It’s become a great way to directly show companies/studios your value.
Do you have work lined up for the next full month?
If so...
1️⃣ High five ✋
2️⃣ Don't forget to email producers/studios with dates when you're next available. This month will fly by and next month might stay empty!
If not...
