The underlying protein measures will become available to UKB researchers in the next few weeks.
We’re excited to announce a pilot proteomics program with @uk_biobank and biopharma collaborators to analyze 50,000 samples using our upcoming proteomics solution, Illumina Protein Prep (IPP), which detects 9000 unique human proteins. The reference dataset will be made available to the scientific research community and pharma partners to improve understanding of the role of proteins in health and disease and facilitate biomarker discovery. I'm deeply grateful to the hundreds of collaborators working across fourteen biopharmaceutical companies, two technology vendors, and one remarkable biobank for making this possible.
I'm delighted to announce that the Pharma Proteomics Project will commence full-scale proteomic profiling of UK Biobank in 2025. We've selected the Olink Proteomics Explore HT platform and Ultima Genomics UG 100 sequencers for this unprecedented study.

This initiative again underpins the transformative value of public-private partnerships for drug development and healthcare and reemphasizes the quiet 'revolution' happening in the field of proteomics.
Proteins, proteins, proteins.
How 3,000 blood proteins can help predict 10-year risk of >200 common and rare diseases, beyond genomic markers

Preprint: https://t.co/dHMrkVK6cP. Viral infections have been linked to an increased risk for dementia - might SARS-CoV-2 infection also confer an increased risk of dementia in segments of the population?
Our latest #pQTL study using the @seer_bio#proteomics platform just went online in @NatureComms - we share the full MS data on https://t.co/rh6Z02wUy0

HOW DOES THE PHARMACEUTICAL INDUSTRY discover new drugs and drug targets for Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, cardiovascular disease, +schizophrenia? Dr Chris Whelan talks frankly about large biobanks, whole genome sequencing, proteomics, multi-omics, pQTLs for brain illnesses, and rare variant associations (e.g., #APOE Christchurch), pTau217, AIML + their value for discovering drug targets and new drugs, and the value of proteomics in predicting disease incidence in global populations. Very insightful podcast, discusses Mendelian randomization and organoids as tools for target discovery, and the need for longitudinal profiling: https://t.co/yR7d5jXTfa see also [1] https://t.co/pzVGfr63Do @chrisdwhelan@ben_b_sun
Congrats @steph_loomis for expertly leading our study of amyloid-related imaging abnormalities in the Ph3 aducanumab (Aduhelm) trials. This is the first study to systematically evaluate ARIA via GWAS & exWAS, with breakdowns by severity & APOE genotype.

Incredibly excited to share our work using the UK Biobank Pharma Proteomics Project (UKB-PPP) data and other efforts in tonight’s #ASHG23 plenary session!!
Come check it out! @OlinkProteomics
Due to a server issue, the UKB-PPP pGWAS website is currently accessible to EU scientists only. @_MatthiasArnold & team are working to resolve the issue ASAP.
Reminder - all results from the UKB-PPP protein GWAS can be browsed and downloaded at:

13 pharma companies have studied thousands of blood proteins from 54,000 people in the UK Biobank and uncovered a treasure trove of new leads on drug targets and biomarkers. My story on this massive #proteomics effort for @endpts:
