Today in 1945, George Orwell published a devastating critique of Communism.
Animal Farm reveals why every communist revolution follows the same tragic pattern: liberation to corruption to oppression.
Here are 10 truths from Animal Farm Orwell warned us never to forget 🧵👇🏼
On July 13, 1953, future Oscar winner Alec Guinness spoke the first words of the first play performed at the Stratford Festival.
"Now is the winter of our discontent, made glorious summer by this son of York."

I am pleased to announce that Marc-André Blanchard will serve as my Chief of Staff beginning in July.
Marc-André has a long and distinguished career as one of Canada’s most accomplished builders, legal experts, executives, public servants, and diplomats including serving as Canada’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations.
Marco Mendicino has my continued appreciation for his service as my Chief of Staff into the early summer, including as we introduce crucial legislation to deliver on our mandate from Canadians and prepare to host global partners at the upcoming G7 Summit in Kananaskis.
Canada’s new government will stand strong for Canadians as we build a new security and economic relationship with the United States, and build a strong economy that benefits everyone — the strongest economy in the G7.
There are many things that the Americans are presenting as an opportunity to Canada. This is one of them. Let’s make the future of our country about more than pulling things out of the ground.
My column: The City of Winnipeg has embraced the federal Housing Accelerator Fund, using it to change the dialogue around housing delivery. As construction season begins we will reap the rewards with an explosion of new development across the inner city.

Canada, we don't need to get into an internecine battle over Energy East. It's cancelled, there is no proponent, and we have better (cheaper, faster, less political) options to stimulate economic growth and diversify exports.
Let's put our energy elsewhere.
@GMDanTO@Sean_Speer@trevortombe Slowly raising it in a predictable amount gives people and organizations time to adapt so it generates less harm, while encouraging action, and CO2-e reductions.
For what it's worth, you can draw a graph like this one for basically every sector subject to the industrial carbon price.
Also (not to be a gatekeeper) you shouldn't trust claims about the impacts of carbon pricing from anyone who doesn't take the time to understand this graph.
☹️Google Scholar is a great tool. But it doesn't show you how papers are connected with each other.
😀Here's how to fast-track your literature review with visual search using Google Scholar's database:
(And export papers to Zotero, Mendeley, or EndNote.)
Trump threatens a 25% tariff on Mexico and Canada on Jan 20 unless… some hard-to-measure steps get taken at the border.
Look forward to seeing the Canadian dollar and Mexican peso’s reaction tomorrow.
Rightly or wrongly, the Canada-US border will be a major priority for the Trump administration. It’s strongly in Canada’s interest to demonstrate now that we take regulating who crosses our border VERY seriously. We should not wait until the inauguration. https://t.co/xv3lnYAkIf
