A very HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Apollo 9's Rusty Schweickart!
Born October 25, 1935.
Here he is during his EVA on March 6, 1969, beautifully lit by the pale blue reflected light from Earth.
Rusty was also responsible for another very important photograph...1/2
Floor it!

UC Berkeley’s Space Sciences Laboratory (@ucbssl) is one of only two university-based centers in the U.S. capable of managing the full life cycle of a satellite mission.
Watch how SSL leads @NASA missions like ESCAPADE — the first dual-satellite mission to another planet, headed to Mars.

“Publicly funded research belongs to all of us.”
Arati Prabhakar led DARPA, NIST, and the White House science office. Now she is defending the public commitment to research, and what it means for democracy.

Trust is the real “fuel” of every mission. We had trust in the tech, trust in the team, and I trust in God. Easy to say after the fact, but we lived it. Thank you 🙏🏾💙🧡🇺🇸
A boy in Sri Lanka races home from school, hoping @NASAJPL has written back. One day, an envelope arrives. Inside: photographs of Jupiter and Saturn.
That boy, @DrRayJay, now leads @Caltech, which manages JPL.

People I admire: @stevenstrogatz
I love how much Steven cares. About mathematics, about understanding something difficult, about the people who spend their lives trying.
Hearing him wrestle with what AI means for that work gets at something I feel as a photographer. The years spent learning to see matter. So does the pleasure of figuring something out for yourself.
I admire his willingness to speak about the grief alongside the excitement, even without knowing where it all leads.
Worth watching. https://t.co/8hoJGYsgCi
