I am absolutely gutted to hear that Eton Middlesbrough has been axed by the Government.

The truth of it is that the local Labour MP and Labour councillors have been against it from the outset.

The fact that Middlesbrough has been singled out while similar projects elsewhere are allowed to proceed makes this decision even harder to swallow.

It is a bitterly disappointing decision and one that will be felt most keenly by talented young people in Middlesbrough.

Once again Teesside has been left behind by Labour locally and nationally - I hope they’re proud of themselves.

What's the point in min. wage if half a workers salary on min wage is subject to tax?

If min wage is the min fair it shouldn't be taxed.

So set threshold right, moderate min wage, stop employers having to cut jobs.

I think this is right: if tax thresholds had indexed with inflation from 2020 - lower rate threshold would be c£16k now & higher rate at c£64k - (not £12.5k & £50.2k). They've already brought in masses of extra tax.
A continued freeze is extremely harsh -do people get the impact?

The freezes have surely brought in far more tax than expected when introduced - inflation wouldn't have been predicted as high as it became.

On moderate infl fcasts the thresholds might have got to c£17.7k and c£71.3k respectively.

What's happening is a world away from that.

The PM keeps repeating the figure £16bn in relation to the OBR's latest forecasts - giving the impression that this would have left a big hole in the public finances. What he fails to acknowledge is that that this is LITERALLY ONLY ONE PART OF THE STORY.
