35 years ago today, Loyola Marymount's Hank Gathers collapsed and passed away during the West Coast Conference Tournament semifinals.

As a 11-seed in the ensuing NCAA Tournament, Loyola Marymount advanced all the way to the Elite Eight before losing to eventual national champion UNLV.

Gathers was the 2nd player in D1 history to lead the nation in scoring and rebounding in one season. He was 23-years old. 🙏

I was just telling my son how special UNLV was. They were literally running teams out the gym. Stifling defense, fast break dunks, swagger, grit, snarling, screaming after they dunk. And when they beat Duke by 30 in the championship game in 1990, man the whole community was proud
