Special Court Sentences Four To De@th For Kidn@pping, Cultism And Other Offences In Edo State

The Edo State High Court sitting in Benin City has sentenced four persons to death by hanging for kidnapping, membership of a secret cult and other violent crimes.

The Special Criminal Court, presided over by Justice Terry Momodu Aigbona, handed down the sentence after a judgment that lasted more than three hours.

Justice Aigbona convicted the alleged gang leader, Isaac Marvellous, 32, on all 11 counts and sentenced him accordingly. The court also ordered that the convicts be executed by hanging or lethal injection.

The other condemned persons are Wisdom Michael, 36; Rufus Michael, 30; and Gift Raphael, 27.

The four were convicted on an 11-count charge bordering on kidnapping, cultism and other violent crimes.

The court also handed down various jail terms to other suspects and ordered that firearms recovered from the convicts as exhibits be handed over to the Federal Government.

There are some things that go beyond banter, honestly. If you’re truly a football fan, it’s football before anything else. You can have your preference between Messi and Ronaldo, but the moment you start disrespecting one to praise another, you’re a hypocrite and not a football fan.

Do you know how disrespectful it is to say Ronaldo is like Haaland? Haaland is a fine player in all standards, but do you realize how disrespectful it is to say that’s Ronaldo’s level of play style? When people say this, it’s out of hate and envy. Best header in the game, best weak foot in the game, top 10 most assists ever, top 10 most free kicks, one of the fastest ever players, one of football’s greatest dribblers, started as a wide midfielder, transitioned to a winger, then to a 9, and you reduce him to Haaland?

Ronaldo’s evolution as a footballer is literally one of the most fascinating things we’ve ever seen. He wasn’t just a goalscorer. He could beat players, carry the ball, create chances, cross, combine, shoot from distance, score free kicks, attack the box, and dominate in the air. His game changed as he aged, but at every stage, he was elite at something different.

You don’t have to prefer Ronaldo over Messi, and you don’t even have to think Ronaldo is the greatest ever. That’s football debate. But pretending he was just a physically dominant striker who waited in the box is rewriting history because you don’t like the player.

Haaland is Haaland. Ronaldo is Ronaldo. They are completely different profiles, and reducing Ronaldo’s entire career to what Haaland does today is not analysis, it’s agenda.
