Jesus’ followers were/are known disciples, which are synonymous with Christians.
“Then Barnabas went to Tarsus to look for Saul, and when he found him, he brought him to Antioch. So for a whole year Barnabas and Saul met with the church and taught great numbers of people. The disciples were called Christians first at Antioch.”
Acts 11:25-26 NIV

““Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’”
Matthew 7:21-23 NIV
Do you believe it’s possible to be sincerely wrong?
Motive fallacy and ad hominem insults.
There are better ways to conduct yourself in a conversation. I genuinely hope you reflect on them, because God calls us to be unified within the church, and to love our brothers and sisters.
Speaking of, would you be down to study the Bible? I would be happy to dive into it! Let me know.
@magicbyjiro@CatahoulaCowboy@PiscinaSacrare I've asked repeatedly if I'm allowed to examine the scriptures on my own, and you still haven't answered my question. Yet instead, you pose your own question afterwards and demand an answer.
I hope you get your money back from the institution that taught you debate!
I’m confused, is your source of papal authority found in the Bible? Yet you disagree with my use of the Bible as my source of authority?
How is referring to the Bible a grift?
This conversation seems to be going wildly off the rails.
Am I allowed to examine the scriptures on my own?
@CatahoulaCowboy@magicbyjiro@PiscinaSacrare Did I argue sola scriptura? Have I not appealed to logic in this conversation?
Am I allowed to examine the scriptures on my own, in order to check if what I’m hearing from people (sometimes on X) is true?
@CatahoulaCowboy@PiscinaSacrare Is it possible to follow the Bible without interpretation?
I’m examining the scriptures every day and NOT taking someone’s word for it. And God calls the Berean Jews noble for that very reason.
Wouldn’t you like to be considered noble by God?
@PiscinaSacrare@CatahoulaCowboy I agree, it's terrible that there are so many denominations (divisions) in the body!
How are you so sure I'm creating my own religion?
In fact, would you accuse the Berean Jews in Acts 17 of "making up their own little religion" by examining the scriptures?
@PiscinaSacrare@CatahoulaCowboy I’m not sure how that answers my question. If you’re referring to Ephesians 4:4-6, I hope you agree there is one foundation of the church, which is Christ. Not anyone else.
You presuppose I interpret scripture, but consider reading the Bible as it’s written.
“Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet’s own interpretation of things. For prophecy never had its origin in the human will, but prophets, though human, spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.”
2 Peter 1:20-21 NIV
Furthermore, the word is God-breathed which means he wants us to obey ALL of it. And what does God describe those who study and obey the Bible? Noble!
“As soon as it was night, the believers sent Paul and Silas away to Berea. On arriving there, they went to the Jewish synagogue. Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.”
Acts 17:10-11 NIV
Why would God describe us as noble if we examine the scriptures to make sure what we’re being taught is true?
I never want to ascribe ill motive where ignorance suffices, so I only ask you to consider the possibility that you are wrong.
Nowhere does the Bible imply Mary was sinless, nor anyone except Jesus for that matter.
I also ask you to consider whether the doctrine you follow is biblically sound, or if it’s tradition that nullifies God’s word.
“You have let go of the commands of God and are holding on to human traditions.” And he continued, “You have a fine way of setting aside the commands of God in order to observe your own traditions!”
Mark 7:8-9 NIV
She was sinless yet still needed a savior?
“And Mary said: “My soul glorifies the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,”
Luke 1:46-47 NIV
Obviously she wasn’t sinless, otherwise the Bible would be wrong. The Bible isn’t wrong, would you agree?
“Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all people, because all sinned—”
Romans 5:12 NIV
@OneManCircus87@forestfrank I go to Metro Miami Church, was baptized about two years ago. Been growing my relationship with God ever since, studying discipleship, all the good stuff. Awesome to chat with another brother in the faith!
What have you guys been studying out lately
