We’ve been preaching peace for six years. It hasn’t been easy. There have been setbacks, threats, and moments that tested our resolve.

But today, something powerful is happening.

Youth from Murle, Nuer, and Dinka are walking peace into hard-to-reach areas. The Peace Caravan Walk has officially begun.

We’re currently taking a short break at Bichibich River before continuing the journey.

For years now, women of Jonglei and the Greater Pibor Administrative Area (GPAA) – (Dinka, Nuer, and Murle) have played an integral role in peacebuilding efforts across the region. Their roles have charted a positive path to unite their communities. Despite these contributions, the women of Jonglei- GPAA have limited opportunities to discuss and engage in dialogue. Today, these women come together to dialogue on matters to move the communities toward achieving sustainable peace in Jonglei- GPAA.
Peace Canal and the partners have been working in the areas of Jonglei - GPAA to make sure that sustainable peace is achieved through means like dialogues.

Earlier this week, we wrapped up a 4-day engagement at the centre for peace locally known as Kuyubuza, which translates to 'I have finally rested'. The women reflected on the hardships they have been enduring as communal conflicts continue to disrupt the peace in all the villages around Bic Bic, Nanaam Payam. This peace centre aims to mobilize the hostile youths to abandon cattle raiding, revenge killing, and inter-communal conflict, child and women abduction, and focus on economic activities like farming. Bic Bic is an isolated area without basic services.
As we listened to the concerns from the community members, including water scarcity, we successfully addressed the age-set issues among the Kurenen and Lango. And even though peace is a process and always hard to sustain, our peace partners, led by RSRTF partners, PC, and UNDP, along with our strategic partner, POF South Sudan.
This coming month, we hope the youth will abolish the raiding and start focusing on more economic activities.

Yesterday, we greatly impacted the lives of the people living in Bic Bic, Nanaam Area of Gumuruk County by establishing a new humanitarian centre of influence. This is part of the Peace Partners through Peace Canal as an implementing partner, mobilizing the hostile youths to abandon cattle raiding, revenge killing, and inter-communal conflict, child and women abduction, and focusing on economic activities like farming. This place is an isolated area without basic services. Peace Partners through @RSRTFSouthSudan provided eye-catching basic services: established an airstrip, humanitarian and administration compounds, a borehole, and a literacy learning space for the age-sets since last year.
Through the support from Peace Canal, @POFSouthSudan, and @RSRTFSouthSudan , the community is enjoying clean water for the first time. This clean water/borehole was provided by Caritas Germany. Humanitarian centre and air strip supported by the @RSRTFSouthSudan crisis modifier funds. This four-day engagement helps us interact with the communities, understand how we can collaborate to chart a better path for sustaining peace among all communities.

In Ayod County, Jonglei State, 3 abduction prevention centres in Paloi of Kuachdeng, Parial in Mogok, and Wunkuel in Wau Payam have been successfully constructed. The centres were identified as hot-spot locations where abductors carry out abduction activities in Ayod County. Under the spiritual leaders' engagement project, these centers have been handed over to the local communities. The youth have occupied these centres to patrol, provide protection, and prevent abduction activities. Together with the support from RSRTF Jonglei, GPAA, Peace Canal is a proud implementer of this project. In the quest to find sustainable solutions to end conflict and child abduction, we want to ensure amicable solutions are applied to bring peace and harmony to every community affected.
