@KlongMatthew Yeah, its a good place. The riverside area was memorable. I read somewhere that it is the hottest city in Thailand. 99F average high temperature in April-May.
@KlongMatthew Sounds apt. Never saw the movie though. I was referencing the Burt Lancaster film from 1962 FWIW. Not sure about its metaphorical applicability. I mean, we're all prisoners in some way. Universally true therefore a bit hollow.
@Ajarncom I have become a fan of umbrellas for this reason. It's still uncomfortably hot but at least the portable shade gives you a bit longer time outdoors before you say "uncle".
@longstayed@charlesmurray It's a good point. But maybe Chinese could better assimilate into Thai culture due to closer cultural proximity. Similar religion and racial background. Analogous to Italians coming to America over the past 100-150 years. Christian, European and white.
@KlongMatthew The similarly brand new airport in Siem Reap also heavily digitized and yet a reassuring chaos prevailed in the arrivals hall when I was there last month. Challenges around how to queue hundreds of people for 4 different stages of the tourist visa within a very small space.
