@Fofire3@alz_zyd_ I travel a lot. None of the things you've listed hold a candle to the influence of 3rd wave coffee. I've never even heard of half that stuff, like what is French burrito?
@pleasedontatme I just did a quick google map search of Lisbon. I saw MAYBE 20 actual boba tea shops in the entire city. Maybe a few more dessert places that also sells it. That's it.
20 shops in an entire city apparently managed to destroy it.
@evisdrenova The older I get, the more thankful for my family for putting me in positive learning environments. I didn't get it at the time, but going to the right schools, having the right friends, and seeing ambitious and successful professionals all the time made all the difference.
@JohnRoss43@jacobin IIRC, China was the biggest 21st century outlier in terms of life expectancy vs per capita gdp. Even when it was poorer than Sub-Saharan Africa and suffering from famine. It was a good 10+ years more than average at one point.
Complete anomaly.
@PAstynome The fact we couldn't just take over North Vietnam was the main reason we failed. We were forced into an attrition war without the ability to force a victory.
So I get real tired of the constant cope over the CCP's military history and potential.
@PAstynome Sub-Saharan Africa.
Even under the threat of getting nuked, they still kept going.
And when America entered the Vietnamese War, they joined and sent hundreds of thousands of troops into Vietnam and prepared to fully enter the war if America invaded North Vietnam.
@mil000 And look, you wrote 6'5" as your bio! What an offbeat and novel guy. No one can ever put you in a bottle because you're just too original.
Enlighten us more with your disdain of those who try too hard, we totally don't see your hidden insecurities being projected.
@mil000 And I wonder what archetype you're trying to play?
The authentic quirky non-comformist who's obsessed with seeming "above it all" while actually being a pretentious dweeb who desperately seeks validation by circling and mocking those who earnestly pursue their materialist goals.
@B_DuBz24@maxcompressor You think a household income of $200k to $400k doesn't buy you land or peace in NYC? Do you know how massive NYC is and how many suburbs exist in the outer boroughs much less the metro area? If you want a yard in a safe area you can buy it.
@BeijingDai Southern China utterly mogs the North.
If Beijing weren't the capital of the country and could dictate so much of the nation's resources, Northern China would be a complete backwater.
@maxcompressor Do you know what kind of exceptional human capital you'd need to be to pull in $400k in household income in other developed countries like Japan or many parts of Europe?
We're talking about a teacher and a cop here.
@maxcompressor Places like NYC are literally the easiest places to get rich relative to the rest of the world. You just need to commit to a realistic and practical career path and find a good partner willing to do the same. That teacher/cop couple can easily earn >$400k together in late career.
@audrlo You need to pick the right hobby.
What you don't want to do is try to intentionally make and keep new friends. Socializing as adults work best when it's natural. We all have enough responsibilities, nobody wants another needy clinger.
@fredsoda You're really supposed to get less materialistic as you get older. That's nature helping you evolve into the kindhearted grandparent archetype to better segue into the next chapter of your soul.
@Linahuaa No one comes to NYC and thinks it's rich?
Lina you used to post some interesting stuff but these engagement post from you lately is distorting your signal to noise ratio.
