Govt unveils comprehensive relief for Kariba Ferry victims.
In the aftermath of the August 11 Kariba ferry tragedy, Government has launched a sweeping relief and recovery programme to support affected families and rebuild livelihoods. Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Minister Hon Edgar Moyo led a ministerial team into Chief Mola’s area, where helicopter services and ground logistics were deployed to overcome poor road access and deliver aid directly to grieving communities.
A 60‑tonne consignment of mealie‑meal was distributed across Wards 1, 3 and 4, with larger trucks relaying supplies to drop‑off points before smaller local lorries completed the final leg. Cabinet has since approved a comprehensive package covering food distribution, monthly cash transfers of US10 000 for income‑generating projects, and full educational support for children from affected households.
Social workers, backed by the University of Zimbabwe’s Department of Social Work, are providing trauma counselling, while medical and logistical assistance is guaranteed until the next harvest. Minister Moyo pledged that no family or community in Kariba would be left behind, stressing that the Second Republic’s response combines humanitarian aid, infrastructure upgrades and water safety reforms to restore dignity and rebuild livelihoods.

@shumbakadzi_zim Crucial interventions for the Kariba community. Securing a modern replacement boat and ordering the immediate overhaul of the Kariba–Siakobvu–Chalala road addresses both urgent transport needs and crucial safety infrastructure.
@Jonhnesisa Engineer Makumbe, invite all the detractors who peddled false information about alleged government inaction on the Kariba disaster. They need to see the interventions on the ground for themselves.
@edmnangagwa Transformative leadership in action. Seeing the brilliant young exhibitors and commissioning real resources ensures the next generation actively builds the prosperous Zimbabwe their parents fought for.
Sanctions don’t end opportunity. Under the "Zimbabwe is Open for Business" drive, we are inviting investors into mining, energy & value addition. Sustainable partnerships build robust supply chains & deliver mutual value. 🇿🇼🇺🇸 #InvestInZimbabwe#Reengagement
