For those that don't follow mixed martial arts, a South African fighter named Dricus "Stillknocks" du Plessis will be taking on the American champion of the UFC middleweight division and fighting for the title this weekend. This is a massive deal and I want to explain why 🇿🇦❤️Over the last few years, the UFC has become one of the biggest sports organisations in the world and the level of competition is incredible stiff with millions of dollars on the line.

For those that don't follow the sport closely, it's hard to fully detail the level of skill required to make it to the @ufc roster, let alone fight for a title.

More impressively, South Africa simply doesn't have the level of infrastructure that many of the developed nations have, so the fact that Dricus is undefeated in the UFC and fighting for the title is a massive deal.

Ever since @dricusduplessis arrived in the UFC, people have been writing him off and yet, he has finished every fight with either a knock-out or submission. And because of this, he's finally been awarded a title fight on Saturday night in Canada (the fight will air early on Sunday morning in South Africa).

This incredible opportunity will be broadcast live on SuperSport and like I always do, I will be waking up early to shout like a hooligan for Dricus. But I won't be alone, because there's an enormous support base for Dricus and many other South Africans will be doing the same.

If you want to see history in the making, set that alarm clock for 5am on Sunday morning and watch Dricus take his shot at glory. Again, the skill level and work ethic required to get here can't be explained in a short post and if he does win, the world is going to be chanting Dricus' name. Avid fans have been waiting for this opportunity on Dricus' behalf for years and it's finally happening.

Last point, besides Dricus being an absolute world-class fighter, he's also incredibly patriotic and one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet. He's become incredibly popular with audiences overseas in the last few months, not only for his abilities, but he's also incredibly entertaining and his prowess on camera has come of age.

I have always said that excellence deserves to be celebrated. Win or lose, Dricus is a national hero for what he's been able to achieve so far. And the fact that he loves this country so much is already such a win in my eyes.

Best of luck, champ. We can't wait for this weekend and like always, I will be attempting to lose my voice while shouting for you on Sunday. South Africa is behind you all the way ❤
