Finally started using Threads, and I'm genuinely enjoying it so I'm going to spend more time there.
If we follow each other and you're on Threads, drop your account details, and I'll catch you that side.
Just to be clear, the fonts on Canva are all good to use freely. No worries there!
But, when it comes to those fonts you find online, the ones you download for free and add to your website, that's where you need to be careful.
When you're downloading fonts for your brand or website, make sure to check the licensing details.
Those free fonts you see online are often only meant for personal use. If you're using them for business purposes, you might have to buy the proper license.
And if you decide to hire a designer, don't forget to ask them about the font license.
You wouldn't want to get into hot water later on if the font creator finds out you're using it without the right permissions.
Things in business that can get you sued or land you in a lawsuit:
1. Not having a privacy policy on your website.
2. Having a website that isn't accessible.
3. Promising specific results(eg: Get 30000 followers in 30 days). If someone doesn't see results, they can sue you.
And it'll show when people start praising your brand for its compassionate approach, that's when you can be confident that you're successfully putting people first and building the right brand image.
Here's an easy way to gauge how your brand is doing as a small business owner: just listen to how people talk about you.
When you have conversations with people, and they describe you or your brand exactly the way you intended, that's a clear sign that you're on the right track
@bluelotusfilms I assume they either don't have time to engage with others or don't use socials much and someone else is managing the account for them.
2. Listen to your intuition more. We are taught for the longest time to ignore our intuition, which can lead us down a path of trusting other people's voices more than our own.
If you struggle with showing up as your true self online or feel awkward showing up on video, then here's something you can do:
Instead of creating content for alot of people, imagine that with each post you create, you're talking to a friend you care about, that you're rooting for
3. Nobody cares about our personal lives.
This is something I've heard from popular experts, but truth is, we love peaking into people's lives.
One of the reasons I love Instagram is because I get to see people's stories and what they get up to.
Things that we worry about that nobody cares about:
1. Spelling mistakes in your post.
I've seen a few, and honestly, it just makes the other person come across as being more human.
The people who point out spelling mistakes are probably doing it for all the wrong reasons.
2. Repeating the same thing again and again.
I heard this example in a workshop run by Coming Up Roses:
We don't get tired of hearing "Just Do It" from Nike.
As a brand, if you want to be known for something, you have to get comfortable with repeating yourself.
