St Paul was a scholar, not merely because of his training with Gamaliel, but also because of his training at the University of Tarsus. Tarsus was known for its university which rivaled those in Athens and Alexandria.

He was well familiar therefore with Greek philosophy, rhetoric, and other elements of classical education.
Greek philosophies like Stoicism, Epicureanism, and possibly early forms of Neo-Platonism were commonly studied in Tarsus, alongside literature, history, and the sciences of the time.

His Greek and Jewish learning were always used in the service of his Christian faith. So, while he could engage with contemporary culture and philosophy, it was always through the lens of his faith in Christ.
