Journalist @DavidSirota says there are "plenty of parallels" between the train derailment in Ohio and the collapse of Silicon Valley Bank, with both episodes exposing the power of industry lobbies to weaken regulations meant to prevent disasters.
Terrible news.
The first drag ban has passed in Tennessee, and goes to the governors desk.
It could easily ban pride. It bans public drag. It bans transgender people performing, who are just living their lives.
It charges them with a felony!
It is blatantly unconstitutional.
Tragic news, everyone.
Mississippi has become the third state this year to ban gender affirming care for transgender youth. The bill will go to the governor's desk for a signature.
If the governor signs, many trans youth in Mississippi will be forced to medically detransition.
Finally emerging from my COVID haze... this week we have some bad ones y'all.
If you are in:
Arkansas
Arizona
Montana
Wyoming
Tennessee
Oklahoma

There are trans bills moving on the 21st and 22nd.
Here's my tracker. LMK if you have other bills these days.
Emily Murphy has been imprisoned and denied bail since the Jan 21 protest in downtown ATL following the police murder of Tortuguita. Emily was charged with "domestic terrorism" despite there being no evidence of them doing anything besides attending a protest.

Happening now: The Arkansas Senate Judiciary is meeting on SB199, which would be a new medical restriction on trans youth, and SB270, which would ban trans ADULTS from bathrooms and charge them with sex crimes if they walk in and children are present.
Follow along live. 🧵
BREAKING: The @EPA claim that water in Ohio is "safe" to drink is based on only a few tainted lab samples funded by the very rail company that caused the disaster. The EPA apparently never tested the water.
Why does the polluter get to do the testing? ⬇️

Remembering that one time when the evidence didn't say that gender affirming care was harmful to trans youth, so the New York Times created it own "analysis commissioned by The Times" with no listed author or peer review process to say they were.
Turning Point USA's Charlie Kirk has called for "men to handle" trans people "the way they did in the 50s and 60s."
These calls for violence must end.
He will be touring colleges this Spring. Show his video to your admins.

When Harriet Tubman was born, Thomas Jefferson was alive.
When Harriet Tubman died, Ronald Reagan was alive.
We are not as far removed from history as some would lead us to believe.
The College Board has financial and political incentive to bend to conservative censorship of African American studies, despite its claims that course revisions are backed by scholarship, says professor @KhalilGMuhammad.
This #mustread on how law enforcement turn their own violence & failures into more money & power by shaping public narrative about causes & solutions. Case study in Alabama: @GovernorKayIvey's solution to a corrupt, failing DOC is to build new mega-prisons for $1.2 billion.
In just 5 minutes, Montana will hold a hearing that will determine if all trans youth there are forcibly medically detransitioned by withdrawing them from their medication.
I will cover this closely - this is where my focus is today. Stay here for the live twitter thread.
