Jimmy Lai, a British citizen, has been held in Hong Kong for nearly six years, most of it in solitary confinement. In February he was sentenced to 20 years. He is 78 and his health is failing.
In the letter, he warned his father is "baking alive" in a windowless cell during record-breaking heat.

“It is not right to consume anything at a faster rate than it can replace itself. This is something the scientists tell us - though we’d rather not agree that the danger is as pressing as they claim. We would prefer not to change our habits until we are compelled to.”~A.A.Milne
I know this isn’t a great image, it’s never going to win a wildlife photography award. But I’m sharing it because it was so lovely to spend 10 minutes watching this little leveret - and sometimes, that’s the most important thing. It’s not about getting the perfect picture or the most ‘likes’. It’s about being out there in nature, appreciating everything, soaking up the sights and the sounds.
This young hare ran up and down the lane repeatedly, pausing occasionally and randomly to jump and twist in the air for seemingly no reason but sheer joy at being alive on that sunny morning. I knew how she felt.
It was a tiny few moments but it felt like such a thrill to watch, such a privilege.
I took this photograph only to remember the experience, and sometimes they’re the very best shots of all. 🥰
Costa Rica has successfully doubled its rainforest cover in just a few decades, becoming the first tropical country to completely reverse deforestation.
"Hills and valleys are unchanging: the lane still follows the ancient track that men have walked for a thousand years. And each year the seasons return. We may lose faith in mankind but we can never lose faith in the opening bud or the falling leaf." ~C.R.Milne #nature
