I'm proud to announce my candidacy Atlanta City Council District 1! I'm a community advocate who served the last three years as president of @SAND_Atlanta fighting for safe streets, public transit, and equity. Join our grassroots campaign! https://t.co/5Y1DP1Fks0
@HowEPhil@Urban_Connector@ATLDOT Im sure you already have a good list of missing connections! My big two are the Peachtree Center cycletrack to Courtland cycletrack and Memorial Dr cycletrack to the BeltLine that I frequently deal with.
Couldn’t say it better! We have great new bike infrastructure coming but we seem to end them at critical, dangerous intersections only a few blocks away from a safe connection. It would be amazing if a punch list of critical gaps was maintained by @ATLDOT and prioritized
This is Atlanta’s biggest challenge and what’s holding us back the most in terms of getting more people out of their cars.
There’s just too many critical gaps that make it too unsafe for the interested but concerned group of riders (which is like 60% of people)

I'm starting up the @ThreadATL podcast again (let me know if you have ideas about subjects to cover regarding Atlanta's urbanism!).
The planning, recording, and editing process is a pain in the rump, but all it's worth it when I get to chat with experts about the city. 🥰
Folks want BeltLine rail. I remember going to a MARTA presentation on MoreMARTA in O4W when they wanted to pass the sales tax increase. Folks were suspicious and finally MARTA said if you want to fund BeltLine rail, here’s how. Let’s keep our promises. @beltlinerailnow
@triciaharris@KelseaBondATL 1) By the time Southside Transit is in place, we could have had Eastside Transit running for years.
2) Building EST doesn't prevent working on SST.
3) There are hundreds of affordable housing units along the EST that were placed there under expectation of transit.
@atlurbanist An evaluation should definitely be done. What all is wrong with their initial projections and how much of delay is inevitable from inaccurate initial projections vs issues with actual project delivery?
It's an election year tactic for Dickens:
Throw a bone to Eastside NIMBYs who oppose rail, while making Southside residents feel like he cares. Meanwhile, he upends the timeline for Beltline rail by many years so he doesn't have to deal with the implementation at all.
Last month, @civicatlanta held a panel discussion with questions on BeltLine rail and shared diverse takes on it. In this clip (video courtesy CCI), BeltLine creator and urbanist visionary @ryangravel urges us to make ATL for everyone, adding BeltLine transit always was its core.
BREAKING: The Atlanta City Council unanimously joined Mayor Dickens in calling for MARTA to pause its renovation plan of the Five Points station.
Pressure is mounting for MARTA, but I'm told CEO Greenwood is out of the country until June 28. Construction set to start early July.
@heflinhollis This was the street our Irish rental house was on. Kids playing, old people walking….just a safe, inviting street that still allowed folks with cars access to their parking spaces.
According to most recent annual report (2022), DWM has Strategic Asset Mgmt Division assessing and inventorying needed investments with a 5 year Capital Improvement Program. On paper, this is great! However, proper planning can’t solve *what appears* to be $7 B funding gap.
