Personal update: I've joined Anthropic. I think the next few years at the frontier of LLMs will be especially formative. I am very excited to join the team here and get back to R&D. I remain deeply passionate about education and plan to resume my work on it in time.
Please, everyone working in DeFi, put your bags aside, and think about this simply.
- Do you run a centralized server you control?
- Does that server facilitate North Koreans or terrorists trading with Americans?
- Is the world ok with that?
I'm not saying those questions are good or bad. I'm not asking you to respond. But just stop and think about it, and be brutally honest with yourself. What do you think is going to happen in the limit?
This is the quiet part no one says out loud. Everyone thinks about this, but no one is going to tell you it. The industry doesn't care about you. Bag holders will encourage you to pump their bags to valhalla. But you, the builder, will ultimately be the one responsible.
I want to see these product exist not for a cycle, but for a lifetime. And for that to happen, DeFi MUST be honest with itself. It must be censorship resistant. If not at the start--which is close to impossible--then progressively. Progressive is great, but you need a plan.
I'm not trying to FUD, but the industry needs to be honest with what it's building--and the consequences of that--for it to achieve all we want it to achieve.
Interesting thread. I'm not sure of its accuracy, but there are lots of details. It shows:
1. You should be very careful before endorsing a token.
2. Token economics matter. Unlocking schedules matter. A lot of research has to be done beforehand.
3. Buying new tokens is inherently risky.
4. There is a lot of money ready to invest.
This could have been a substantial opportunity for Argentina if it had been managed well...
