We’re excited to announce the launch of the Inclusive Speech Technology ASR Innovation Sprint in Uganda, hosted under the Centre for Digital Language Inclusion (CDLI) and delivered by @senses_hub , in partnership with @miic_ug (MIIC) and @GDIHub. This project is a part of the AT2030 program funded by UK International Development.
This five-month hybrid program (Nov 2025 – Mar 2026) brings together students, innovators, researchers, and persons with disabilities to co-design and build speech technologies that support people with impaired speech who speak African Languages to be understood by technology and communicate better.
Participants will gain:
- Hands-on training in AI and speech technology
Mentorship from global experts
- Co-design with people with speech impairments
Access to datasets, research tools, and visibility through international networks
- A certificate of Participation from all the project partners
- A shared prize of USD 5,000 for top-performing teams

PearlOxy Uganda Limited, is tackling the challenge of unreliable oxygen supply in low-resource healthcare facilities by developing the Medium Pressure Oxygen Storage (MPOS) System. The MPOS system is an innovative, locally built device that stores oxygen at medium pressure when electricity is available and automatically releases it during outages, ensuring hospitals have a steady and reliable supply.
As the 1st Runner-Up, the team walked away with USD 1,000 — a well-deserved reward for their outstanding innovation and dedication to improving healthcare access in Uganda

Congratulations to Team Eco Flash — 3rd Runner-Up at the Graduate Innovation Program #PitchFest2025! 🎉
Their innovation Eco Flash Dryer, is a dual-powered cassava drying system that uses solar energy and cassava waste (biomass) as fuel to deliver efficient, weather-independent drying all done indoors.
By enabling farmers in off-grid rural areas to dry cassava chips and flour sustainably, the team is tackling post-harvest losses while championing clean energy and circular economy solutions.
Team Eco Flash proudly walked away with USD 500 — a well-deserved recognition for their ingenuity and commitment to sustainable impact.

Team B&J Testers also took to the stage at the Graduate Innovation Program #PitchFest2025!
Their innovation — the B&J Tester is an affordable, smart water quality monitoring device designed for fish farmers. The device floats on water, enabling continuous, real-time monitoring of water conditions.
Unlike traditional manual testing kits that only provide results at the moment of testing, the B&J Tester delivers constant updates and instant alerts whenever water quality drops to unsafe levels, helping farmers protect their fish and improve yields.
