High School sports coaches if you have rough 1st year just hang in there and build for the future. I had 7 kids this year in track and field. Focus on the kids you have and grow. The numbers will grow. The future is always bright. #adaptandovercome

Be a Great Teammate.
One of the most important jobs of a coach today isn’t just teaching skills.
It’s telling the truth.
Truth about effort.
Truth about attitude.
Truth about roles.
Kids don’t need less honesty.
They need more adults willing to lead with it.

"First you form your habits, then your habits form you."
The small decisions you make daily - those become your habits.

The 10 Truths Parents Rarely See
1. Coaches lose sleep.
2. Decisions aren’t personal.
3. Playing time is complex.
4. Culture matters more than stats.
5. Accountability is care.
6. Coaches invest emotionally.
7. Development isn’t instant.
8. Hard feedback is intentional.
9. Wins don’t tell the whole story.
10. Coaches remember kids forever.
Perspective matters.
“Too many kids today are afraid of failure.” - Doug Collins
What happens when kids never learn to fail?
They quit when it gets hard.
Because no one let them practice getting back up.
Applied to coaches...
6 Rules for Sports Coaches.
1. It’s their journey, not your résumé
Don’t coach for your record. Coach for their growth.
2. Hard moments are where growth happens.
Don’t remove them. Guide them.
3. Own the locker room tone
What you say, and how you say it, sticks longer than you think.
4. Model what you expect
Effort. Energy. Attitude. They will mirror you.
5. Celebrate the team over the individual
Culture wins when “we” matters more than “me.”
6. Make it about more than the scoreboard
Years from now, they won’t remember the score.
They’ll remember how you made them feel.
Be the coach they remember for the right reasons.

Doubt will always creep in. It’s human nature. You can’t completely stop doubt from happening, but you can choose whether you listen to it or not.
Realize that action is better than giving into your doubts. You either succeed or you learn. When you give into your doubts and refuse to act, you miss out on the great opportunities and lessons that could happen. You must be intentional about talking to yourself. Speak positively to yourself and instill the belief and confidence in yourself.
Refuse to give into your doubts. Choose to act. Be willing to take the opportunity or lesson. You’ll thank yourself later.
Urban Meyer: "I don't want to be around you. Why be around average?"
Average doesn't announce itself.
It sneaks in through the exceptions you make.
1. Your standards
2. Your circle.
3. Your self-talk.
4. Your habits.
5. Your culture.

Houston HC Kelvin Sampson - Why Coaches Fail
- "I think the coaches that fail at every level, are the coaches that are passive aggressive. Passing aggressive coaches are usually afraid to hold kids accountable, they rationalize."
- "If you're going to build a culture, the first thing you have to come to grips with, you're going to have confrontation."
- Consistency
- Competence
- Confidence
