No school was greater in the Great American Conference this spring!
Arkansas Tech University continued its recent run of championship success on Sunday by clinching the 2026 regular season GAC softball championship outright and by winning the women's tennis GAC Tournament title.
In addition, the Wonder Boys baseball team will host East Central for the championship series of the GAC Tournament beginning Friday, May 8, at Carl Baswell Field. Arkansas Tech earned that opportunity by going 3-0 during the first stage of the GAC Tournament this weekend in Hot Springs.
All of this is on top of the GAC championships already earned this spring by the Wonder Boys and Golden Suns golf teams.
Welcome to Russellville, Arkansas...title town of the GAC for spring 2026!
An Arkansas Tech University legend for all times began on this date 125 years ago.
John Tucker, forever known as "The Original Wonder Boy," was born on April 15, 1901. He grew up to become a star football player at what was then known as the Second District Agricultural School, and his play helped inspire the coining of our distinctive and treasured Wonder Boys nickname.
But that's only part of the story. After completing his education at Arkansas Tech in 1925, Tucker remained on campus as a coach. He took a sabbatical to complete graduate study at the University of Alabama, but returned home to serve as head coach for the Wonder Boys football program from 1933-47. He continued to serve Arkansas Tech in administration and as a chemistry teacher until his retirement in 1972. He passed away on February 20, 1983, at the age of 81.
Today, "The Original Wonder Boy" is remembered at Arkansas Tech through the naming of Tucker Coliseum and Tucker Residence Hall.
This dedication from the 1965 Agricola yearbook perhaps best summarizes the influence that John Tucker had, and continues to have, on Arkansas Tech University:
"If you are a relative Johnny-Come-Lately, and are not closely connected with Arkansas Tech, then John Tucker may be just a name to you — a name dropped in awe by people who saw him as a football player, or who watched his teams from one to two decades later. If you are now or ever have been a student of chemistry at Arkansas Tech, the name John Tucker is synonymous with excellent instruction.
"John Tucker has proven to be a most capable leader of youth, and has been and still is, loved and respected by all who know him."
The Masters will do about $70 million in merchandise sales this week.
$10 million per day
$1 million per hour
$16,000 per minute
$277 per second
That's $25 million more in merchandise sales than the Atlanta Braves did all of last year — in just one week, with no online sales.
Best thing I ever did in coaching was become a student assistant at ATU! There’s no better way to learn about what kind of work it takes to be a football coach than doing this! #FiggtOn

Congrats to Olivia Whipple for her 3rd place finish in both Long & Triple Jump at the Bulldog Relays in Greenwood tonight! Both jumps were PR’s for Olivia! Whipple also scored in the 200 M Dash with a 6th place finish! #Only1Airedale
Great conversation at Arkansas about leadership and what it really takes to run a team and program.
These conversations are always one of my favorite parts of the Next Up All-American Tour.
