Hitters
Refuse to strikeout.
Spread out, choke up, take the plate away, grit your freaking teeth, and compete.
It's a competition.
It's you vs the man on the mound.
It's personal.
Steve Kerr: “We haven't found that grit that every team needs where you pull together and just play for the group. That's a problem...Until this team really connects in a way that's solely dedicated to winning every game, we're gonna be stuck in this place."
DID YOU KNOW? Since 2016, the CJ4 winner has won the Group 4 state title 4 out of 6 times? @HCRHSAthletics in 2016 and 2018, @MSBaseball_2020 in 2021 and @Howellbaseball in 2022? A @GMConferenceNJ Red team is guaranteed to win the title this year. Will they go all the way?
Teams that don’t strike out at a high clip win more games. Simple as that. This is amplified at the college level and 10 fold at HS level and below. Once you get two strikes, it becomes 100% a team at-bat. Grind it out. Compete your tail off. Choke-up, shorten up, widen up, get closer to plate and implement your two strike mental approach. Some call this their “B Swing.” Make the pitcher work! Always liked “look fastball away and adjust.” But there are other 2 strike approaches that are just as effective. Need to experiment and find out what works best for your style of hitting. Often a quality two strike approach leads to hard hit balls. But even when they don’t, the opposition still has to field it, throw it, and catch it. That’s called pressure. Much more difficult to defend than a right turn back to the dugout.
