@TFConsortium I see how training atp-pc improves our power output, max V etc. I also see how aerobic capacity is important and is trained. If someone’s glycoltic “capacity” improved what improvements would we see? Where would this show up in a sport like football?
1 CAP. 2 CAP. DELETE. SWIPE.
Stop chasing defenders. Start eliminating decisions.
R4 VR Swipe Scans train QBs to recognize the 1 Cap / 2 Cap Principle, delete capped route space, and redirect their eyes to the next best option.
Faster processing starts with faster elimination.
A good example here of methods before principles.
Your zone 2 work doesn’t have to be running. Bike, elliptical, stair climber, incline walk, rucking are all examples of other methods to achieve a zone 2 stimulus.
It also highlights the differentiation between energy system development (ESD) and conditioning. ESD is general to physiology, conditioning is task specific.
The way to condition to throw 100 pitches in an outing is through a gradual pitch count build up - this naturally occurs in almost all throwing programs. There’s a reason most pitchers stay around 75-80 pitches on opening day.
ESD supplies the underlying structural and physiological changes to support conditioning when the time comes. They are often used interchangeably, but are not the same.
For pitchers specifically, even 1-2 hours of zone 2 per week can have significant benefits with limited to no downside. It’s not fatigue inducing at that intensity or volume, and there is no interference effect - that is a lazy cop out.
Lifting with your HR always above 100 potentially erodes the training stimulus you are able to get from lifting itself. Simply put, you can’t lift heavy enough without sufficient rest. Lifting itself is a lever that moves the needle more early in a career than an MLB veteran, so Trevor’s case is very different from a high schooler.
TLDR: Running is only one method of zone 2 work. Doesn’t work for you? Don’t include it in training. Conditioning and energy system development are not the same. Both have a place in training. Turning lifting into ESD may dampen the adaptations of your lifting.
@ChaseDaniel They spend 8 months getting tons of reps with no rush and perfect conditions. I think it has made the kicking game so much better. But they need to experience the stress of being rushed. And most teams are not getting enough live reps for their kickers.
@theqbschool From an NFL perspective that makes sense. For our high school team we run it at 10-12 and it’s been high % 3rd & long for us against quarters. Probably my favorite concept right now.
@pbasilstrength We’ve been running two 30 into 10 s on Monday and three 5 into 10s on Weds. we’re not really hitting max V on Weds. what would you think about one 30/10 and two 5/10s on both days instead? Or just stick with one max V one accel.
The older I get, the more I understand…
Why Jesus talked so much about humility.
Why forgiveness matters.
Why Scripture warns us about pride.
Why obedience matters when nobody is watching.
Why You can have everything and still feel empty.
In the end..
Jesus is enough!
