Wanting to win is easy.
Behaving like a winner every day is hard.
"You have to practice and play and behave like a winner if you want to win games." - Kara Lawson 👇
“The most powerful thing in a team sport is a player led program.
You have to help them navigate it.
But, when you can get them to own these moments, you are just so much better.”

Walk in your purpose
When you're walking and aligned in your purpose, it allows you to be so clear-minded. I don't get distracted by anything on the outside because I know I'm doing what I'm supposed to be doing."
The fastest way to get from a ‘season of adversity’ to a ‘season of prosperity’ is to lock in on what is really true.

Extremely emotional answer from Syracuse guard Laila Phelia on her journey through a retinal detachment last year at Texas and what coming to Syracuse and playing for Felisha Legette-Jack meant to her:
“We do have to have those tough conversations. You can’t have them without a relationship. I kind of wanted to implore just how much belief I had in her.” - @BrendaFrese on her interaction with @oluchi_okananwa ❤️

“You guys make it about the wins and losses. 25 years from now, I want them to pick up the phone and call me because they need me. I’m there for them.”
The life of a coach is an investment in people, not just points.
Build a legacy that outlasts the jersey.
“Comparison is the thief of joy. Thats how you get in trouble, you know saying someone’s better than this player, not better than that player,” Kara Lawson
Comparison measures people. Standards measure progress.
If you focus on others, you lose sight of your identity.
“It’s in your body language. It’s how you talk to one another. It’s how you compete in practice. Those standards become our baseline. When you have those standards, you understand the byproduct will be winning, but all those things have to show up before the scoreboard,” @MollyMiller33
Hard coaching without relationship produces resentment. Relationship without hard coaching produces entitlement. The sweet spot is a player who knows you love them and knows you will not lower the bar for them.
Bob Knight shares the 4 ingredients of discipline.
"My definition of discipline: Do what has to be done, when it has to be done, as well as it can be done - and do it that way all the time."
Discipline is not a moment - it's something you choose for yourself.
1: Do what has to be done → Action
Know the task. Execute the task. No excuses.
2: When it has to be done → Timing
Procrastination is the enemy. Deadlines aren't suggestions.
3: As well as it can be done → Standard
Not halfway. Not good enough. As well as it can be done.
4: Do it that way all the time → Consistency
Not when it's easy. Not when you're motivated. All the time.
Discipline is choosing temporary discomfort for long-term reward.
It's a commitment to yourself - and holding yourself to it.

GREAT TEAMS HAVE GREAT TEAMMATES.
✅ Bring energy whether they're playing or not.
✅ Find ways to be in the game even when they aren't in the game.
✅ Create momentum.
✅ Are just as excited about a teammate's success as they are their own.
