@MikeJATP@JPFar@PIOErikScott Could be, and sounds like that, but I donโt know enough about all that for my comments to be anything but uneducated speculation.
@MikeJATP@JPFar@PIOErikScott Not to mention the capital and maintenance costs required for that expanded system would require raising customer bills probably 5 times what they are right now. Last rate increase my system had would raise average bill about $4/month and people basically called us greedy A holes
@MikeJATP@JPFar@PIOErikScott You can add more storage tanks but then you create problems for non emergency conditions where you canโt turn tanks over fast enough and eventually water age creates unhealthy byproducts that would exceed DNR/EPA regulatory limits for health and safety.
@MikeJATP@JPFar@PIOErikScott The biggest US plant out in Chicago can produce about a billion gallons in a day at max capacity in ideal conditions. The conditions I just mentioned in LA were probably drawing a few hundred million gallons in an hour it simply canโt hold up forever eventually runs dry.
@MikeJATP@JPFar@PIOErikScott If you have specific scenarios Iโd love to take a look but hundreds of fire trucks pulling at the same time along with thousands of service lines free flowing for sprinklers or melted PVC lines is going to draw water out of the system so fast it can only be sustained hours maybe.
@EthosVentures@dotkrueger@amuse There is not much that could have been done dif. I run a fairly large system serving over 1 mil. customers and can tell you large water systems are not designed to be able to maintain pressure for such large and prolonged demand. They canโt be w/o creating other safety problems
@JPFar@PIOErikScott If you oversize tanks then you deal with water age issues during normal demand situations so now you have probably violated your regulatory limits on carcinogenic DBPs and probably have some nitrification issuesโฆplease try again.
@cutlets19504@Acyn I am in charge of the water system for a large county. Iโm sorry to say that you are incorrect. Every large water system would fail and depressurize if every customer watered their lawn at the same time.
